A festival that inhabits the city

INSIGHT Foto Festival is the event that annually turns Varese into a large, widespread gallery of contemporary photography. Promoted by the Gattabuia APS association, the festival doesn't just display images: it transforms squares, historic buildings, and city spaces into meeting points for photographers, the public, and students, viewing photography as a tool for investigating and narrating the present.

The sixth edition: the theme "Abito" (Garment/Inhabit)

For 2026, the festival chooses the word "Abito" as its guiding theme. This term combines what we wear and the way we live. As a noun, it describes the visible form of identity: how we show ourselves, represent ourselves, and recognize ourselves. As a verb ("abitare" - to inhabit) it signifies an action: living in places, relationships, and institutions as spaces to question and transform. Exhibitions, talks, and meetings for the sixth edition are structured around this dual meaning.

Growth and local roots

Since its first edition in 2021, INSIGHT has hosted over seventy exhibitions, involved around one hundred and fifty young artists, and offered educational programs to more than three hundred and sixty university and high school students. For 2026, the festival is expanding its network with new collaborations: the University of Insubria, the Brera Academy, and Villa Panza. Supporters include the Municipality of Varese, the Fondazione Comunitaria del Varesotto, the Region of Lombardy, the Fondazione Cariplo, and the Varese Chamber of Commerce.

Varese and its province

The capital of the Lombard province of the same name, at the foot of the Prealps and overlooking its lake, Varese offers the festival a backdrop of villas, gardens, and architecture that become an integral part of the exhibition route. INSIGHT is now a recognized event on the region's autumn cultural calendar.
