Saint Martin, Patron Saint of Vergiate

The Patronal Feast of Saint Martin is the most important celebration in the calendar of Vergiate, a municipality in the province of Varese. Dedicated to the town's patron saint, it takes place around November 11th and combines the religious dimension with the traditional popular fair that has accompanied the anniversary for generations.

The Fair in the Town Center

For the days of the feast, the center of Vergiate is filled with stalls selling sweets, gastronomic products, and crafts, while itinerant shows, concerts, and theatrical performances take place along the streets. For the little ones, there is a funfair and dedicated entertainment, in a celebration that involves all ages.

Procession and Roasted Chestnuts

The religious heart of the feast is the solemn procession with the statue of the patron saint, a moment of strong community participation. The Alpini's roasted chestnuts are also a must, a typical autumn event that smells of roasted chestnuts. The event is organized by the Municipality of Vergiate together with the Feast of Saint Martin Committee, formed within the Pro Loco with representatives from the parish, merchants, and associations.

Vergiate and the Province of Varese

Vergiate is a municipality in the lower Varesotto area, near the Ticino River and the Ticino Park. The Feast of Saint Martin is the occasion when the town comes together around its roots, between faith and tradition.
