Two days of team games to kick off the summer in Quindici, in the Lauro Valley
In Quindici, a small town in the Lauro Valley, at the western edge of the province of Avellino, the arrival of summer has a precise date and form: two days of games organized by the Pro Loco Quindici near the solstice. It is called Benvenuta Estate, and in 2026 it reached its eleventh edition, scheduled for Saturday, June 20th, and Sunday, June 21st. It is one of those events you won't find in guidebooks, but which truly marks the change of season in the town.
The official subtitle of the event — «Team Games» — already captures the spirit of the initiative. There is no stage with a guest to listen to: there are teams being formed, challenges to be faced, and people cheering. It is the participatory formula that many Irpinian Pro Loco associations use to bring different generations together in the square, from children to the elderly, and in Quindici, it functions as a true opening ritual for the summer.
The detailed program — times, competition locations, list of events, team composition — is not released in advance on the web: the Pro Loco communicates it locally via posters and through its social media channels. Visitors from out of town would do well to contact the association directly in the days leading up to the event.
Quindici lies at the foot of the Pizzo d'Alvano massif, in that strip of Campania where western Irpinia borders the Naples area and the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese. It is a land of chestnut groves, hazelnut orchards, and small villages lined up along the valley, a short distance from the castle of Lauro and the larger towns of the plain. The town's memory bears the mark of the tragedy of May 5, 1998, when mudslides from Pizzo d'Alvano also struck Quindici: the Pro Loco dedicates one day of its official calendar to the commemoration every year.
Alongside the memory, however, there is constant work on the present. The local Pro Loco — which presents itself with the motto «living the present with one foot in the past and an eye toward the future» — brings together religious tradition, folklore, and social life: from the Carnival quadrilles to the days when churches with Byzantine-style frescoes of Sant'Aniello and Santa Lucia are opened, up to the summer tournaments and games.
Benvenuta Estate is not an isolated event: it is a link in the 2026 calendar of Quindici events, which includes, among others:
In addition to these, throughout the year, there is the Emigrant's Festival in mid-August — dedicated to those from Quindici who moved abroad, featuring dances, songs, and local cuisine — the Tour Car Classic vintage car and motorcycle rally, and the San Lauro Prize reserved for the town's university graduates.
Those looking for a large festival with famous names won't find it here. Benvenuta Estate is instead an opportunity to see how a real village festival works in the westernmost part of Irpinia: a few hundred meters of streets and squares, improvised teams, young people competing, and adults commenting, without tourist filters. For a traveler exploring the Lauro Valley or the Nola area in June, it is a direct way to connect with the community, perhaps combining it with a visit to the historic center and the churches of the Municipality of Quindici.
For 2026, the Pro Loco Quindici scheduled Benvenuta Estate for the weekend of the solstice: Saturday, June 20th, and Sunday, June 21st. The date appears in the annual program of Irpinian Pro Loco associations released by the Unpli Avellino provincial committee, where the event is listed as «11th Edition Benvenuta Estate — Team Games».
The edition confirms the formula that has kept the event alive for over ten years: outdoor challenges between teams in the squares and streets of the Municipality of Quindici, in the province of Avellino. It is the first of two summer events in the Quindici calendar, followed a few weeks later by the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 15-16.
The details of the events, times, and locations were not published online: as with many initiatives of the Pro Loco associations in the Lauro Valley, communication remains entrusted to posters displayed in the town and the association's social media channels. Those wishing to reconstruct the complete program can contact the Pro Loco Quindici directly.
Quindici is located in the Lauro Valley, at the far west of the province of Avellino, about forty kilometers from Naples. By car, the reference is the A30 Caserta-Salerno motorway: the most convenient exits are Nola, Palma Campania, and Sarno, from which you continue for a few kilometers on the valley roads. There is no train station in town: the closest rail connections are Nola (Circumvesuviana line) and Sarno.
The 2026 edition took place on Saturday, June 20th, and Sunday, June 21st. There is no public information regarding tickets or participation fees: to register a team or find out the times, it is best to contact the organizers directly.

In June, it is already hot in the valley: wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and a hat. The center is small and can be explored on foot; for a longer stay, it is better to base yourself in Lauro, Nola, or the Vesuvius area, all of which are a short distance away.
