The children's carnival in the heart of Bene Vagienna
The Bene Vagienna Carnival is the signature carnival celebration of Bene Vagienna, a charming village in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont. Rather than a large-scale parade of floats like those in Venice or Viareggio, this is an authentic village festival, passionately organized by the parish volunteers and youth leaders who transform the historic center into a vibrant playground of fun for children every year.
The heart of the event is the Children's Carnival: the historic center is decorated and equipped to welcome dozens of children in costume, who gather in the square for group dances, scavenger hunts, and activities led by the parish youth. Each edition features a different imaginative theme: for example, in 2026, the town streets were transformed into a colorful circuit inspired by the animated film Cars, complete with challenges and skill tests for the participants.
After the games in the square, the most anticipated moment is the costume parade: a cheerful procession of children in fancy dress winding through the historic streets amidst confetti, streamers, and plenty of music. The parade also stops at the local nursing home, where the children bring greetings and smiles to the elderly residents—a simple gesture that perfectly captures the community spirit of the Bene Vagienna Carnival. The day concludes with hot chocolate prepared by the parish cooks, offered to both young and old.
Bene Vagienna is one of the most picturesque villages in the Cuneo area, known for its elegant historic center, noble palaces, and the nearby Roman archaeological site of Augusta Bagiennorum. In this setting rich in history, the Bene Vagienna Carnival stands out as one of the most cherished winter events, capable of involving entire families and bringing the village to life for a day of colorful, shared celebration.
The Bene Vagienna Carnival takes place in the historic center of Bene Vagienna (Postal Code 12041), in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Activities are concentrated in the squares and streets of the town center.
