Floats of petals and flower throws in the capital of floriculture
The Battaglia di Fiori is the symbolic event of Ventimiglia, in the province of Imperia. Founded in 1903 from the idea of some flower growers, it is closely linked to one of the most prosperous sectors of the economy of western Liguria: floriculture. Recognized as Heritage of Italy for tradition, it will reach its 46th edition in 2026.
The absolute protagonists are the allegorical floats, true artisanal masterpieces entirely covered in mosaic-patterned petals. Each group works for weeks on the creation of its float, composing images and decorations with thousands of flowers. The parade transforms the streets of the center into a moving floral art gallery.
The most anticipated moment arrives on the second lap of the floats: the figures on board engage in a flower battle with the public crowded along the streets, throwing petals and flowers at each other. At the end of the route, the streets of Ventimiglia are left covered by a soft carpet of fragrant petals. A jury of experts finally awards the most beautiful float.
The Battaglia di Fiori tells the identity of Ventimiglia and the entire Riviera dei Fiori, where flower cultivation is culture, economy, and landscape. Attending the festival means entering the heart of a tradition that combines art, craftsmanship, and popular celebration, in one of the most evocative cities on the border between Italy and the French Riviera.
For 2026, the Battaglia di Fiori returns to Ventimiglia on June 16 and 17, celebrating its 46th edition. Along the streets of the center, allegorical floats entirely covered in petals parade, while on the second lap, the figures throw flowers at the public, leaving the streets covered in petals. A jury awards the best-made float.
Detailed parade times will be announced by the Municipality of Ventimiglia closer to the event.
