The distillation of purple gold in the square, in the village of the astronomer Cassini
In Perinaldo, a municipality in the Province of Imperia perched on the hills of western Liguria, lavender is one of the local traditions. The Festa della Lavanda (Lavender Festival), held in July in the historic centre of the village, celebrates this "purple gold" and the ancient bond between the town and its cultivation.
The heart of the festival is the live distillation: the alembic is set up in the square, and the public can witness the magical process that transforms lavender flowers into essential oil, a ritual that celebrates an important artisanal tradition for the territory. It is a fascinating and educational moment, allowing you to discover ancient knowledge up close.
The festival continues in the evening with music and shows, in a climate of community gathering that animates the historic centre of Perinaldo. The birthplace of astronomer Gian Domenico Cassini, Perinaldo offers the ideal setting to combine culture, tradition, and landscape. The Festa della Lavanda is an opportunity to discover this corner of the Riviera dei Fiori on one of its most fragrant days.
The 2026 edition of the Festa della Lavanda takes place on Saturday, July 18, starting at 3 PM, in the historic centre of Perinaldo. Visitors can witness the magical process of distillation with the alembic live, the ritual that celebrates the purple gold of the Perinaldo land.
The evening continues from 9 PM with music and a show dedicated to interpretations of Adriano Celentano, in a festive atmosphere of community gathering.
Perinaldo can be reached from Bordighera or Vallecrosia by driving inland (about 30 minutes by car). Scenic hill road.
In July, from the afternoon (from 3 PM). Distillation in the square and music in the evening.
