The non-competitive food and wine walk through the hills of Basciano
The Bascialonga is a non-competitive food and wine walk that brings Basciano, a small hillside village in the province of Teramo, in the heart of Abruzzo, to life every year. Originally a local village festival, it has grown with each edition. Organized by Pro Loco Basciano APS, it is designed for those who love to walk at a leisurely pace, stopping along the way to savor local flavors and explore the landscape of the Basciano and Penne hills.
The trail, approximately 10 km long, starts from the central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and initially winds through the historic center of Basciano, where information totems tell the story of the village. From there, you gradually enter the greenery, passing through cultivated fields and secondary roads, walking past the church of Santa Maria a Porto Lungo, and reaching the Castel Cerreto Regional Nature Reserve, an oasis rich in flora and fauna. This is not a race: you walk at your own pace, with family or friends, enjoying the Teramo countryside.
The heart of the event lies in the refreshment points scattered along the route. At the start, each participant receives a branded glass in a pouch to wear around their neck, used for wine tastings at every stop. At the refreshment stations, you can sample traditional Teramo dishes and local products, with vegetarian options available. Informative signs along the path highlight the food, wine, history, and natural features of the area, making the walk an opportunity to learn about the territory.
The Bascialonga is much more than just a walk: it is a defining event for the community of Basciano and for food and wine enthusiasts in the province of Teramo. At the end of the route, a shuttle bus service is provided to take participants back to the town center. The event traditionally takes place on a Sunday in June and requires advance registration with the Pro Loco.
The Bascialonga 2026 has been announced by Pro Loco Basciano as the new edition of the village's non-competitive food and wine walk, celebrating nature, music, and tradition. At this time, the Pro Loco has not yet released the full program for the 2026 edition: the exact date, departure times, and registration fees will be officially communicated at a later date.
The format, consolidated in previous editions, includes a 10 km route starting from the historic center of Basciano, refreshment points with tastings of local Teramo products and wines, a branded glass provided at the start, and a shuttle bus service at the finish.
