The traditional May 1st bike ride in Baricella
When May 1st arrives, in Baricella, the focus isn't just on Labour Day: it's about getting on your bike. Bariciclona is the traditional cycling tour that has opened the sunny season for years in this municipality in the plains northeast of Bologna, in the heart of the Metropolitan City and the Emilia-Romagna region. Organized by the territorial group Baricella of the Polisportiva Avis Bolognese, cycling section, it's a free, simple event open to everyone, designed to rediscover the country roads, hamlets, and most picturesque corners of the area by cycling.
The route is entirely within the Baricella municipal territory, starting from the main town, Piazza Sandro Pertini. It's a flat and peaceful loop, perfect even for those who aren't expert cyclists and for children. Along the way, the group passes through the hamlet of Boschi and the locality of Mondonuovo, with a special stop dedicated to visiting the Prato Basso stable, before concluding at the Sports Centre in the hamlet of San Gabriele.
Bariciclona is much more than just a bike ride: it's a community celebration. The various stops along the route become opportunities for refreshment and meeting, from the bar in Boschi to the final lunch at the San Gabriele sports centre, where those who wish can stop to eat together by booking on the same morning. Participant safety is guaranteed by the presence of law enforcement, Civil Protection, and an ambulance, while the use of helmets is strongly recommended, especially for children.
Born from the commitment of Avis volunteers, Bariciclona truly embodies the spirit of the small towns in the Bolognese plains: passion for cycling, attachment to one's territory, and the joy of gathering outdoors. It's an event that showcases the Baricella hamlets and the hidden beauties of the countryside, transforming a festive morning into a healthy and joyful way to experience the town. For those visiting the Province of Bologna in spring, it's the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic and genuine side of Emilia-Romagna.
In 2026 too, May 1st in Baricella was all about Bariciclona, the bike ride organized by the cycling section of the Polisportiva Avis Bolognese. The initiative, free and open to all, repeated the usual loop through the Baricella countryside with convivial stops and refreshments along the route.
