The rainbow parade for LGBTQIA+ rights in the heart of Bari
Bari Pride is the most significant event for the LGBTQIA+ community in the Apulian capital. Every June, the centre of Bari is filled with rainbow flags, floats, music, and thousands of people marching to demand rights, visibility, and equality. It is more than just a celebration: it is a participatory political procession that traverses the city, involving not only the capital but the entire province of Bari and the wider region.
The parade traditionally starts at Piazza Umberto I, the city's beating heart, and winds through the main streets of the Murattiano district to the seafront, before returning to the starting point. The route, closed to traffic for the occasion, transforms the streets into a catwalk of colours, signs, and slogans, animated by floats, DJ sets, and speeches from the many groups that make up the local coordination committee.
Bari Pride is also a moment for reflection and civic engagement. At the end of the procession, final rallies are held with speeches from associations and social advocacy groups, followed by a public party open to all citizens. There are also information booths dedicated to health and prevention, offering free and anonymous testing. The parade day is surrounded by a full programme of side events—debates, cultural exhibitions, and meetings—that accompany the "Pride Month".
Created to give a voice and visibility to the local LGBTQIA+ community, Bari Pride has grown into one of the city's most well-attended civil events. Its strength lies in its local roots and intersectional character: alongside the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals, it champions the fight against all forms of discrimination and oppression. For one weekend in June, Bari becomes the Apulian capital of rainbow pride.
Bari Pride 2026 brought thousands of people to the streets on Saturday, June 13, confirming itself as one of the city's most well-attended civil events. The theme of the year, summarized in the dialect slogan "Da ddo ama partì" ("We must start from here"), reclaimed Southern pride and the idea of Pride as a starting point to build a solid, intersectional network capable of involving and protecting all oppressed categories, not only in the capital but throughout the province of Bari.
The procession crossed the Murattiano centre and the city's seafront, with floats, music, and signs, ending with a DJ set in the Murattiano green area. Institutional representatives also took part in the parade. Spaces dedicated to health prevention were also available.
The day of the parade was accompanied by the "Visioni Intersezionali" side event series, dedicated to rights and contemporary languages during Pride Month.
Bari Pride takes place on a Saturday in June. Participants gather in the afternoon at Piazza Umberto I, with the procession starting in the early afternoon.
