The summer season of Bari's leading theatre, featuring world-class dance, jazz, and stories of the city
In 2026, the Fondazione Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari launches EXTRA, its first summer season outside the regular subscription. From June 1st to July 8th, the premier theatre of Puglia opens its doors with thirteen events designed for the summer audience and the many tourists flocking to the regional capital. The concept, presented by the Municipality of Bari together with the Foundation, aims to keep the theatre vibrant all year round and bring grand dance back under the vault of Corso Cavour.
The programme spans the languages of live performance. Dance takes centre stage with an opening entrusted to the stars of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the elegance of the eVolution Dance Theater, and a parade of international étoiles. Music ranges from Bach's baroque violin to signature jazz and grand piano recitals. To complete the picture, a series of meetings dedicated to 19th-century Bari, curated in collaboration with the Laterza publishing house.
Among the most anticipated events is the production by the Guangzhou Theatre, which brings dance and music to Bari to celebrate the forty-year twinning between the Apulian city and the Chinese metropolis: a cultural bridge that confirms the international vocation of the Petruzzelli. The closing night, on July 8th, is entrusted to Ute Lemper and her refined homage to Paris, «Paris Paris».
EXTRA is the perfect opportunity to discover the Teatro Petruzzelli in a new summer guise and to appreciate the multifaceted identity of Bari from fresh perspectives. In a city that thrives on the sea and outdoor events during the summer, this proposal combines the charm of a historic venue with the international flair of a high-level programme in the heart of Puglia.
The inaugural edition of EXTRA 2026 animates the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari for over a month, from June 1st to July 8th. The programme alternates grand dance, with the opening entrusted to Nicoletta Manni and Timofej Andrijashenko and the dancers of the Teatro alla Scala, and high-level music, from Stefano Montanari's baroque violin to the international jazz of Till Brönner and Paquito D'Rivera, up to the piano recital by Hayato Sumino. Special events include the production by the Guangzhou Theatre for the 40th anniversary of the twinning between Bari and the Chinese city, and the «I Giorni di Bari» cycle of meetings, dedicated to the city's history in the 19th century.
