The race of the Mediterranean peoples along the Bari seafront
The Bari Med Marathon has become one of the most anticipated running events in the Apulian calendar. Every spring, the event brings hundreds of Italian and international runners to the capital of Puglia, attracting athletes from over thirty nations. It is more than just a race: it is a true sports and wellness festival that animates the Municipality of Bari for an entire weekend with runs, workshops, music, and activities for all ages.
The identity of the Med Marathon stems from Bari's Mediterranean vocation as a city of the sea and exchange. Each edition is dedicated to a country bordering the Mare Nostrum, celebrating its culture and traditions: after Greece, the historical cradle of the marathon, the most recent edition chose Turkey as the guest nation. The race thus becomes a symbol of dialogue and friendship among the twenty-two countries surrounding the Mediterranean.
The competitive program revolves around three main events:
There is also space for the little ones with the Kid's Med Marathon, designed to introduce children and families to the world of running in a playful way.
The course is one of the event's highlights: it winds through the alleys of Bari Vecchia and the famous Adriatic seafront, offering participants glimpses of the sea and the city's monuments. The event's headquarters is the Pane e Pomodoro area on the seafront, where the Expo and the Med Sport Festival are set up with stands, shows, and sports promotion initiatives.
The Bari Med Marathon combines the competitive dimension with a strong social spirit: the event supports youth inclusion projects through sports and offers a weekend of wellness accessible to everyone. Music, workshops, and festive moments accompany the races, turning the Apulian capital into the Italian capital of the race of the peoples for a few days.
The fifth edition of the Bari Med Marathon was held over the weekend of May 1-3, 2026, with competitive events scheduled for Sunday, May 3. The event was dedicated to Turkey, chosen as the guest nation in the spirit of dialogue between the peoples of the Mediterranean.
Three distances were offered: the 21 km competitive half-marathon, the relay for pairs (a new feature this year) over the same distance, and the 10 km competitive and non-competitive. All races started at 8:30 AM on a flat course between the historic center and the Adriatic seafront. The Pane e Pomodoro area, on Corso Trieste, hosted the Expo, bib collection, and the Med Sport Festival. The event attracted athletes from over thirty countries, confirming its status as the race of the Mediterranean peoples.
Bari is well connected by train (Bari Centrale station) and by plane (Bari-Palese airport, connected to the city center by shuttle and train). The start and finish area is located on the seafront in the Pane e Pomodoro district, reachable on foot or by public transport from the center.
Registration is done online via the official event website. Race bibs can be collected at the Expo in Pane e Pomodoro (Corso Trieste) in the days leading up to the race.
The races start early in the morning: we recommend arriving in advance and taking advantage of the weekend to visit Bari Vecchia, the Basilica of San Nicola, and the seafront.
