The great mountain and adventure cinema stops in Lecco
The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival was founded in Canada, in the town of Banff in the Rocky Mountains, and is considered the most important international festival dedicated to mountain, adventure, and exploration cinema. Each year, a selection of the winning films goes on tour worldwide with the World Tour: the 2026 Italian edition travels through over forty cities in Italy and Italian-speaking Switzerland, making a stop in Lecco at the Cineteatro Palladium on Via Fiumicella.
The evening features a selection of short and medium-length films for about two hours of screening: steep skiing in Japan, ice climbing between Mont Blanc and Iceland, mountaineering, mountain biking, and kayaking. Stories of athletes, extreme landscapes, and resilience, with a constant focus on the relationship between humans and the natural environment.
It is no coincidence that the festival finds such a devoted audience in Lecco. The Lombard city, overlooking the eastern branch of Lake Como and dominated by the Resegone and Grigna mountains, is one of the symbolic places of Italian climbing. The evening is organized by the Gruppo Ragni della Grignetta, a legendary Lecco mountaineering school, and includes a brief talk with a local climbing legend, who will discuss how the discovery of new routes and the emergence of the first climbing crags transformed Lecco into a mountain capital.
The screening is designed for mountain enthusiasts but also for those simply looking for an evening of excitement and grand visuals. Doors open at 7:30 PM and the screening begins at 8:00 PM, in the center of Lecco, in the Province of Lecco.
