The flower and plant market fair in the historic center of Pontremoli
When the last weekend of April arrives, the historic center of Pontremoli takes on a new look. The cobbled streets and squares of the northernmost town in Tuscany fill with pots, blooms, and fragrances: this is BancarelFiore, the market fair dedicated to flowers and garden plants that has been celebrating spring in Lunigiana for over thirty years. It is an unmissable event for gardening enthusiasts, as well as for those who simply want to stroll among the stalls and soak up the festive atmosphere.
The heart of the event is located in the monumental squares of the town of Pontremoli: Piazza Duomo, with its Baroque cathedral, Piazza della Repubblica, and the long Via Cavour, the main artery of the historic center. Along this route, floriculturists, producers, and artisans set up their stalls, creating an itinerary that blends commerce with beauty, medieval architecture, and floral carpets.
BancarelFiore is more than just a market. Alongside the exhibitors, the program features exhibitions, workshops, and initiatives for students and adults, designed to explore the world of plants and gardens. In recent years, the fair has been enriched with installations, guided tours to discover the hidden gardens of the village, activities for children, and musical performances in the square. It is the perfect opportunity to purchase rare plants, balcony flowers, and gardening equipment, while also rediscovering the lesser-known corners of Pontremoli.
Located at the far north of Tuscany, in the province of Massa-Carrara, Pontremoli has been the gateway to Lunigiana for centuriesโa land of castles, Romanesque parish churches, and ancient pilgrimage routes like the Via Francigena. Also known for the Premio Bancarella literary award, the city boasts a refined historic center that, during BancarelFiore, displays all its elegance dressed in flowers. A day at the fair thus becomes an invitation to discover an authentic territory, rich in traditional gastronomy, history, and Apennine landscapes.
From April 24 to 26, 2026, the historic center of Pontremoli hosted the 33rd edition of BancarelFiore, the traditional flower and garden plant market fair. Nursery stalls enlivened Piazza Duomo, Piazza della Repubblica, and Via Cavour, open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, transforming the Lunigiana village into a large sprawling garden.
Alongside the market, the program offered exhibitions, workshops, and initiatives aimed at schools and families, as well as tours and entertainment throughout the center. Admission was free and the event took place as scheduled even with uncertain weather, confirming it as one of the most beloved appointments of the Pontremoli spring.
BancarelFiore 2026 was spread over three days, from Friday to Sunday, with continuous hours from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
The details of the individual side events were published by the Municipality of Pontremoli in the days leading up to the event.
The monumental squares of Pontremoli transformed into a carpet of flowers and colors, with dozens of nursery stalls, thematic exhibitions, and workshops for all ages, with free entry.
By car: Take the Pontremoli exit on the A15 motorway (Parma-La Spezia), just a few minutes from the historic center. By train: The Pontremoli station is on the Pontremolese line (Parma-La Spezia), a short walk from the center.
The fair is open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM on all three days. Admission is free, and the event takes place even in case of bad weather.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking on the cobbled streets of the historic center and bring a sturdy bag for your purchases. Take advantage of your visit to taste the typical dishes of Lunigiana, from testaroli to torta d'erbi.
