The contemporary dance festival of Barletta at the Church of Sant'Antonio
Every spring, the Church of Sant'Antonio in Barlettaโlocated in the heart of the Barletta-Andria-Trani province in Pugliaโbecomes the stage for Azioni in Danza, a festival that brings the best of Italian and European choreographic research to the city. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Barletta in partnership with Puglia Culture, in collaboration with the Anticorpi XL Network and the KRASS Association, a local Apulian organization led by Stefania D'Onofrio that has been exploring contemporary body language for years.
Azioni in Danza is more than just a showcase; it is a project that weaves together artistic programming, training, and creation. Alongside evening performances, the festival features masterclasses, dance-theater workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and artist residencies involving professional dancers, local dance students, and enthusiasts.
Thanks to its connection with the Anticorpi XL Network and the regional Puglia Culture circuit, the festival hosts established names in contemporary choreography while providing a platform for emerging young authors, often recognized by major national contests. For Barletta and the entire BAT area, Azioni in Danza is one of the most significant cultural events of the spring season, attracting audiences and enthusiasts from neighboring provinces.
The choice of the Church of Sant'Antonio as the main venue is no coincidence: the space, restored to the city's cultural life, offers acoustics and an intimate atmosphere that perfectly complement the nature of auteur dance. Each evening becomes an immersive experience where the moving body meets the history of the site.
The thirteenth edition of Azioni in Danza animated the Church of Sant'Antonio in Barletta from May 7 to 17, 2026. Promoted by the Municipality of Barletta with Puglia Culture, the Anticorpi XL Network, and the KRASS Association, and curated by Stefania D'Onofrio, the festival offered a dense calendar of evening performances, masterclasses, workshops, and creative residencies, confirming its status as a benchmark for contemporary dance in Puglia.
Key participants included companies such as KoreoProject, PinDoc, Arte&BallettO, Sosta Palmizi, and the KLm collective, alongside finalists of the 'Nati per la danza' contest and emerging young authors supported by the Anticorpi XL circuit.
Barletta is served by the railway station on the Adriatic line (Trenitalia) and the Ferrotramviaria network. By car, take the Barletta exit on the A14 (Adriatic motorway). The Church of Sant'Antonio is located in the historic center, within walking distance of the station.
Full-festival passes and single-show tickets are available, with discounts for teachers, dance students, seniors (over 65), and youth. Tickets can also be purchased on the evening of the performance. For information on passes, contact the WhatsApp number 328 1912107 (10:00 AM โ 12:00 PM); for masterclasses and workshops, email [email protected] or call 327 5458920.
Performances generally start at 8:45 PM; we recommend arriving early due to the limited capacity of the venue.
