Live music in the heart of Augusta on the summer solstice
The Music Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Augusta, in the province of Syracuse, in the heart of southeastern Sicily. It is held every year on June 21st, coinciding with the summer solstice, in harmony with the grand celebration that spread from France across Europe and Italy. Organized by the municipal administration, the event brings live music to the streets and squares of the historic center, with Piazza Duomo serving as the main stage.
The festival is above all a showcase for local artists: solo singers, choirs, marching bands, and Augusta-based groups take turns on stage, offering the city a cultural opportunity that knows no age limits. Both young talents and historic amateur groups participate, creating a festive and shared atmosphere that highlights the local music scene.
In recent editions, the evening begins with a parade that crosses the historic center, traveling along Via Principe Umberto from Piazza Castello to Piazza Duomo, where the main festival kicks off. Throughout the evening, performances of diverse genres follow one another, from pop music to singer-songwriter tracks, from brass band repertoires to polyphonic choirs, and even sets by emerging bands.
Admission is free and open to everyone: the Augusta Music Festival is designed as a participatory event, welcoming residents and visitors alike, inviting them to experience the city center on one of the longest and brightest evenings of the year. It is included in the Augusta municipal summer calendar, which enriches the season every year with concerts, shows, and cultural initiatives.
Overlooking the Ionian Sea and famous for its strategic position and important port, Augusta preserves a historic center nestled on the island from which it originated. Experiencing the Music Festival also means discovering the squares, churches, and corners of this city in the province of Syracuse, on a journey that combines music, social life, and local identity.
For 2026, the Augusta Music Festival is confirmed for Saturday, June 21st, on the day of the summer solstice, with Piazza Duomo as the heart of the event. The Municipality of Augusta has published a public call for musicians, choirs, bands, and local groups to participate in the festival, which is part of the 32nd national edition of the European Music Day, this year dedicated to the theme "The voice of places".
As every year, the evening will be enlivened by live performances from local artists, with music, dancing, and shows open to all ages. The program with the lineup of participating artists will be announced by the municipal organization in the weeks preceding the event. Admission is free.
