Three days of faith and folk tradition in the village of the Bassa Valle del Torto
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In Aliminusa, a rural village of just over 1,300 inhabitants nestled on the northwestern slope of the Montagna Soprana, in the heart of the Bassa Valle del Torto, summer reaches its peak in the third week of August. Over three consecutive days, the municipality celebrates three devotions deeply felt by the community: San Calogero on August 22nd, Maria SS del Rosario on August 23rd, and Santa Rosalia on August 24th.
The custom of combining these three celebrations into a single festival cycle began in the 1970s, with the intent of aligning the festivities with the summer return of the many Aliminusa natives who had emigrated. Since then, these three days have represented the most significant gathering of the year, filling the streets and squares of this small town in the province of Palermo, Sicily.
The heart of the festival lies in the solemn processions of the statues of the three saints, which wind through the streets of the historic center accompanied by the devotion of the faithful. Liturgical celebrations take place in the historic Church of Sant'Anna, an original 1635 building that houses precious baptismal fonts and tabernacles, overlooking the 17th-century baronial courtyard, the architectural hub of the village.
Alongside the sacred rites, the program offers the essential secular manifestations of Sicilian tradition:
During the same period, the Embroidery Exhibition and the festival of local typical products also take place, providing opportunities to discover the craftsmanship and gastronomy of this corner of the Palermo province.
More than just a patronal feast, the August festivals of Aliminusa are a rite of collective belonging: for those who stayed and those who return, they are an occasion to reunite, renew faith, and pass on the village's traditions. The celebrations are among the events supported by the Sicilian Region in its annual program for the promotion of folk festivals.
The official program for the 2026 edition is not yet available. We are awaiting the usual schedule for the three days of celebration, including religious rites and secular events, which the Municipality of Aliminusa typically publishes in August. For updates, it is recommended to check the official municipal channels.
Aliminusa is located in the hinterland of the province of Palermo, Sicily, at an altitude of approximately 450 meters. By car, it can be reached from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Buonfornello/Tremonzelli exit) or from the SS113, continuing along the provincial roads of the Valle del Torto. The nearest train station is Termini Imerese, on the coastal line.
The festivals take place every year from August 22nd to 24th.
The events are free and held outdoors, in the streets and squares of the historic center.
