Urban culture, music, and local heritage in the Marsica region
The Astra Sound Festival is a summer event celebrating hip-hop and urban culture, hosted in Avezzano in the heart of the Marsica area, in the province of L'Aquila (Abruzzo). Conceived and organized by the Panama Association, a collective of young local professionals, the festival combines live music, DJ sets, and visual arts with the promotion of the region's historical and natural heritage.
The Astra Sound Festival formula goes beyond just concerts. Alongside live stage performances, the program offers guided tours of iconic Marsica landmarks, such as the Cunicoli di Claudio (Claudius Tunnels), the Aia dei Musei, and the Alba Fucens archaeological park. It also features wellness moments with yoga sessions in the Monte Salviano Nature Reserve. The organizers' vision is to rediscover the territory through the contemporary language of urban music, creating a cultural model that can be replicated throughout the Marsica region.
The second edition takes place on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, in the Cortile della Sala Irti in Avezzano, with doors opening at 4:30 PM. The main event on Friday, July 10, features Turin-based rapper Ensiโa three-time Tecniche Perfette champion and a prominent figure in the Italian rap sceneโaccompanied by DJ Gengis, a legendary Roman DJ with over fifteen years of experience. Saturday is dedicated to cultural activities, afternoon DJ sets, and social gatherings.
The festival courtyard hosts food & drink stalls, illustrators, tattoo artists, merchandise, and local exhibitors, creating an atmosphere that fuses music, art, and conviviality. The event is supported by the Municipality of Avezzano and stands out as one of the most original summer offerings in the Marsica region, attracting a young audience and showcasing inland Abruzzo from a fresh perspective.
The inaugural edition took place in July 2025 over three days at the Aia dei Musei, featuring Roman rapper Gemello and numerous emerging local artists, laying the groundwork for an event now eagerly anticipated by the entire Marsica community.
