The Asparagus and Strawberry Festival is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in Gemonio (Province of Varese). Now in its fortieth edition, the festival celebrates two symbolic spring products, asparagus and strawberries, in a weekend that attracts gourmets from all over the Varese area to the Multipurpose Center on via Edoardo Curti.
A festival made by volunteers
The event is organized by the Gemonio Volunteer Fire Brigade and Civil Protection Team, which manages the kitchen and hospitality. The menu revolves around the stars of the festival:
- Asparagus-based dishes, from appetizers to first courses;
- Strawberry desserts and sweets;
- Traditional cuisine with the warmth of a village festival;
- Proceeds to support the volunteers' activities.
The Asparagus and Strawberry Festival is an example of how the small communities of the Varese area know how to enhance local products and volunteer efforts, in a convivial atmosphere that is renewed every spring in Gemonio.
Asparagus and Strawberry Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the 40th, takes place on May 16 and 17 at the Gemonio Multipurpose Center. The program includes dinner on Saturday from 7:30 PM and, on Sunday, lunch from 12:00 PM and dinner from 7:30 PM. The volunteers of the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection Team are in charge of the kitchen, with dishes based on asparagus and strawberry desserts.

How to get there
Gemonio is located in the province of Varese, in the Lake Maggiore area, accessible from the SS394 and served by the train station. The festival takes place at the Multipurpose Center, in via Edoardo Curti 5.
Admission and hours
Free admission. Saturday dinner is usually from 7:30 PM; Sunday lunch from 12:00 PM and dinner from 7:30 PM.
