The arts and crafts festival at the Tonnara of Marzamemi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Artieri Creative Market is the arts and crafts festival that brings the historic Tonnara of Marzamemi to life every summer. Located in the enchanting seaside village that is part of the municipality of Pachino, in the province of Syracuse, on the southeastern tip of Sicily, it is defined by its organizers as the largest creative market in Southern Italy. The event occupies the evocative loggia and the spaces of the ancient tuna fishery overlooking Piazza Regina Margherita, restoring a place steeped in maritime memory and identity to the beauty of handmade crafts for several weeks.
The heart of the event is the artieri (artisans) market: dozens of selected artisans, designers, and creatives from all over Italy and abroad exhibit and work live, allowing visitors to observe the creative process that usually remains hidden within workshops. Among the stalls, you will find micro-cast jewelry, furniture made from driftwood, original ceramics, hand-carved soaps, artist engravings, embroidered clothing, candles, bags, and creative transformations of vintage materials. It is an authentic showcase of artisanal Made in Italy, far removed from mass production.
In addition to the market, Artieri offers a rich program of free activities: printing, illustration, watercolor, and artistic technique workshops open to everyone, including options designed for children. Recent editions have hosted woodcut and illustration exhibitions, art printing labs, and special days in the Arab courtyards of the tuna fishery, featuring live painting, handmade paper demonstrations, and musical moments. The festival thus unites tradition and vision, memory and innovation, enhancing manual skill and authentic creativity.
The setting is Marzamemi, a hamlet of Pachino and one of the most photographed seaside villages in Sicily, with its fishermen's houses, squares overlooking the sea, and the 17th-century tuna fishery. Visiting Artieri means experiencing the evening atmosphere of the village, amidst art, craftsmanship, and the scent of the sea, in the territory of the Syracusan Baroque and just a few kilometers from Noto and the beaches of the island's extreme southeastern tip.
The appointment with Artieri Creative Market at the Tonnara of Marzamemi is also expected for summer 2026, in continuity with previous editions held in August. At the moment, the dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released by the organizers.
