About Arrosticini Festival

Every summer, Castelnuovo di Portoโ€”one of Italy's most beautiful villages located just north of Romeโ€”hosts the Arrosticini Festival. These evenings are dedicated to the famous sheep meat skewers cooked over charcoal, a culinary icon shared between the Abruzzo and Lazio regions. Organized by the La Pleiade Cultural Association with the support of the Municipality and the Pro Loco, the festival combines tastings, food stalls, and live music in a convivial, popular atmosphere perfect for families and food lovers.

The Arrosticini Festival in Castelnuovo di Porto

In the heart of the countryside north of Rome, the Arrosticini Festival in Castelnuovo di Porto has become a highly anticipated event at the start of the Lazio summer. The festival celebrates the arrosticino, a small skewer of diced sheep meat slow-cooked over charcoal: a humble, ancient dish that lies at the heart of the gastronomic tradition between Abruzzo and Lazio, and is now beloved throughout central Italy.

Evenings of Taste and Conviviality

The event takes place in the municipality of Castelnuovo di Porto, in the province of Rome, bringing the village's historic center to life. Food stalls open in the evening, serving the essential charcoal-grilled arrosticini alongside other traditional dishes and classic festival drinks. The scent of meat on the grill accompanies visitors throughout the evening, creating a festive atmosphere that draws locals and curious visitors from Rome and neighboring towns alike.

Live Music and Festive Vibes

Every evening, the festival features live music, with concerts and entertainment designed for all ages, keeping the squares lively until late. Admission is free, and the informal setting makes the event ideal for families with children and groups of friends, representing one of the most authentic village festivals in the Roman area.

One of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages

The festival is also the perfect excuse to explore Castelnuovo di Porto, a member of the Borghi piรน Belli d'Italia (Most Beautiful Villages of Italy) network. The historic center, dominated by the 16th-century Palazzo Ducale, offers charming views, cobblestone alleys, and panoramas of the Roman countryside. A stroll through the village before or after your meal perfectly rounds off the experience.

Organization

The Arrosticini Festival is organized by the La Pleiade Cultural Association, which pours passion into every edition, with the patronage of the Municipality of Castelnuovo di Porto and the collaboration of the Pro Loco. The dedication of the volunteers and the strong bond with the local community are the soul of this popular festival, which over the years has become a small summer classic north of the Capital.
