Four nights of live music, street food, and entertainment at the Arenaccia picnic area in Atena Lucana.
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the municipality of Atena Lucana, in the province of Salerno, summer now has a fixed appointment: the Arenaccia Festival, the event that for four days turns the Arenaccia picnic area into a large open-air space dedicated to live music, conviviality, and great food. Promoted by the Atena Eventi association, the festival has become, in just a few editions, one of the most popular events in the Vallo di Diano, attracting audiences from neighboring towns, the rest of inland Campania, and the neighboring Basilicata region.
The choice of location is no coincidence: the Arenaccia has always been the equipped green area where locals gather for summer picnics and barbecues. Bringing live music back here has meant restoring a social space to the community, in a format that combines concerts, a village fair, and a gastronomic area.
The formula is well-tested: each evening has its own identity and a different audience. It ranges from Latin American nights, animated by dance schools and dedicated DJs, to concerts by bands reinterpreting funk, pop, and Italian repertoires, and DJ sets that keep the crowd going until late at night. Over the years, the Arenaccia stage has hosted groups such as Avion Groove, Calastreet Band, and Arkana, along with numerous DJs and artists from the Salerno and Lucanian music scenes.
Throughout the event, a large Food and Beverage area remains open, offering local specialties and street food options. This is one of the most appreciated aspects of the festival: the Vallo di Diano is an area with solid rural gastronomic traditions, and the Arenaccia food court becomes an opportunity to taste local flavors in an informal setting between concerts. The stands usually open in the early evening and remain active until late at night.
Next to the stage, a children's area is set up with games and entertainment, ensuring families can spend the evening in comfort. Admission to the festival is free on all days: a choice that has helped make the Arenaccia Festival a popular and inclusive event, frequented by young people, families, and older residents alike. Some evenings have been held in collaboration with the Youth Forum, featuring moments specifically designed for the under-30 audience, such as the Aperinaccia aperitif.
The event traditionally takes place in the second half of August, towards the end of summer. The 2023 edition was held from August 24th to 26th over three nights, the 2024 edition from August 22nd to 25th, and the 2025 edition from August 21st to 24th, with four days of programming. The format has progressively expanded, moving from a single evening concert to a full-fledged festival with multiple themed areas.
Atena Lucana is one of the oldest settlements in the Vallo di Diano, in Campania: it preserves traces of prehistoric megalithic walls and was first a Lucanian stronghold and later a Roman municipium. The historic center, perched at over 600 meters above sea level, overlooks the Vallo plain and is famous for the Feast of San Ciro, where on the third Sunday of May, women carry large pyramids of candles on their heads in a procession. Today, the town is also one of the main hubs of the Vallo di Diano thanks to its location along the highway connecting Salerno to Calabria, making the festival easily accessible even from outside the province.
As of late July 2026, there are no official announcements regarding the dates and program for the Arenaccia Festival in Atena Lucana, in the province of Salerno. The historical calendar of the event places it in the second half of August: August 24-26 in 2023, August 22-25 in 2024, and August 21-24 in 2025.
If the format is repeated, the event will return to the Arenaccia picnic area with four nights of free admission featuring live concerts, DJ sets, Latin American dance nights, a large food court with local specialties and street food, and a space dedicated to children. The organization is managed by the Atena Eventi association.
To find out the final dates and program, it is best to follow the association's social media channels, where the lineup is usually published in the weeks immediately preceding the event.
Arenaccia picnic area, Atena Lucana (SA), Campania. The green area is well-equipped and located a short distance from the town center.
Concerts usually start around 9:00 PM and the evenings continue late: it is best to arrive early to dine calmly at the stands. In August, evenings at this altitude can be cool, so bringing a light sweater is useful. For updated dates and programs, we recommend following the social media channels of the Atena Eventi association.
