The beekeeping trade fair for Central and Southern Italy in Morcone, Sannio
Every February, the pavilions of the Morcone Fair Area in the Province of Benevento are filled with beehives, frames, honey extractors, and jars of honey: Api e Dintorni is the trade fair organized by the Azienda Speciale Consortile Fiera di Morcone e dell'Alto Tammaro together with APAS - Apicoltori Campani Associati to highlight a sector that represents agricultural identity, landscape, and biodiversity in Campania. Launched in 2024, the event has quickly become one of the most popular gatherings for beekeeping in Central and Southern Italy, with the stated goal of making Morcone a hub for the industry in the South.
The heart of the event is the exhibition area, which in recent editions has hosted over fifty stands featuring producers and companies from various Italian regions. It is more than just a market: it is a professional trade fair where both commercial beekeepers and hobbyists can find everything needed for the production season, and where curious visitors can discover the many products derived from a beehive.
Alongside the stalls, technical conferences and seminars take place daily, forming the professional core of the program: topics include hive monitoring, combating fraud and ensuring the authenticity of Italian honey, bee health, climate change, the use of pesticides, environmental sustainability, and the economic outlook for the sector. There are also outreach activities for the general public: guided tastings led by sensory analysis experts who teach how to recognize honey by its scent and texture, and educational beekeeping activities that have involved local schools over the years with workshops on the world of bees and the role of pollinators. The third edition added a session dedicated to hotel management schools and a cooking demonstration on the use of honey in the kitchen, exploring both sweet and savory pairings.
The town of Morcone is a village in the Alto Tammaro area, in the hinterland of the Province of Benevento, Campania: a landscape of hills, woods, and pastures that represents the "other side" of the region, far from the coast and the most beaten tourist paths. It is an ideal setting for beekeeping, and the Morcone Fair - a local institution with over forty years of tradition - is its natural showcase. Visitors arriving in February find two things at once: a serious industry trade fair and the chance to discover an authentic piece of the Sannio region, with its cheeses, cured meats, and baked goods presented in the local gastronomic products pavilion.
Api e Dintorni successfully balances different roles: it is a moment of technical updating for those who work with bees, a commercial fair where contacts and supply deals are made, and at the same time an event open to families thanks to the tastings, workshops, and refreshment area. Admission is free and the continuous hours from 9 am to 7 pm allow visitors to explore both the exhibition and the conferences at their own pace. For those living in Campania, Molise, or lower Lazio, it is a perfect day trip; for beekeepers in Central and Southern Italy, it is becoming a fixed appointment on the calendar at the end of winter, as colonies prepare for the spring revival.
From February 13th to 15th, 2026, the Morcone Fair Area hosted the third edition of Api e Dintorni, organized by the Azienda Speciale Consortile Fiera di Morcone e dell'Alto Tammaro together with APAS - Apicoltori Campani Associati. The exhibition, open daily from 9 am to 7 pm with free admission, brought together about sixty stands featuring honey producers and professional equipment suppliers from several regions of Central and Southern Italy.
The pavilions opened on Friday morning, with the official ribbon-cutting in the afternoon in the presence of civil and religious authorities: among others, the mayor of Morcone Luigino Ciarlo, the regional councilor for Agriculture Maria Carmela Serluca, the president of the board of directors of the Morcone Fair Giovanni Bao, and the administrators of the nearby municipalities of Sassinoro and Campolattaro.
The program alternated between technical conferences and seminars on hive monitoring, combating fraud and ensuring the authenticity of Italian honey, bee health, and environmental sustainability, along with outreach moments open to everyone: guided tastings, educational beekeeping activities, and a session dedicated to hotel management schools, accompanied by a cooking demonstration on the use of honey in the kitchen. An internal refreshment area welcomed visitors throughout the event.
The detailed program of individual sessions was published by the organizers close to the event on the Morcone Fair website and social media channels.

It is February in the Sannio hinterland: dress in layers, as temperatures in the hills can be low. Check the conference program on the Morcone Fair website and social media channels before leaving, as technical sessions are spread over the three days. Bring a large bag: between honey, propolis, and local gastronomic products, it is hard to leave empty-handed.
