About Apertus

Apertus is the open-air summer review that brings narrative theatre, word, and philosophical thought to the heart of Savignano sul Rubicone, in the province of Forlì-Cesena. Curated by the cooperative Sillaba teatro parola, every summer the event transforms the charming Piazza Borghesi into an open-air stage, with a handful of evenings dedicated to great voices of the Italian scene. Monologues, lectio magistralis, civil storytelling, and authorial comedy alternate under the stars, in an intense dialogue with an audience of all ages.

The theatre of the word under the stars of Savignano

Apertus is the summer review that enlivens Piazza Borghesi, in the historic centre of Savignano sul Rubicone, a municipality in the province of Forlì-Cesena in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in 2025 and curated by the cooperative Sillaba teatro parola with the patronage of the Municipality, the event offers a precise and recognisable format: theatre made primarily of words, narration, and thought, entrusted to performers capable of holding the stage alone, with the sole power of storytelling.

A format blending narration, philosophy, and comedy

Apertus is not a traditional indoor theatre season, but a review designed for summer and public spaces. The evenings take place outdoors, in the piazza, and mix different genres united by the centrality of the word: civil narrative theatre, philosophical lectio magistralis, literary monologue, and intelligent comedy. It is an event that dialogues with the wider season of Savignano's summer events, complementing the offerings of the Teatro Moderno, also curated by Sillaba during the winter months.

Great voices of the Italian scene

The common thread of Apertus is the quality of its guests. Since its first edition, the review has brought leading names from the Italian cultural landscape to Savignano, from narrative theatre to philosophical thought, from writing to satire. Each evening is a unique event, with a protagonist invited to engage with the piazza audience: a rare opportunity, in a medium-sized town, to see live artists who normally fill large theatres and national festivals.

Piazza Borghesi, a natural stage

The heart of the review is Piazza Bartolomeo Borghesi, the central square of Savignano sul Rubicone named after the illustrious scholar and numismatist born in the town. The piazza, with its intimate atmosphere, becomes an open-air theatre for a few summer evenings, where the proximity between stage and audience amplifies the intensity of word-based theatre. It's a way to experience culture as a shared community experience, in line with the traditions of the Romagna summer.

Apertus — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Apertus brings four evenings with major protagonists of narrative theatre and the Italian scene to Piazza Borghesi: Marco Paolini, Luca Bizzarri, Roberto Mercadini, and Simone Cristicchi. From civil theatre to authorial comedy, from storytelling to music, the summer review curated by Sillaba confirms its formula of word and thought under the stars of Savignano sul Rubicone.

The second edition of Apertus, scheduled in Savignano sul Rubicone from June 24 to August 5, 2026, features four major evenings in Piazza Borghesi. The programme, curated by Sillaba teatro parola, alternates narrative theatre, comedy, and civil storytelling, confirming the review's mission to bring nationally renowned voices to the piazza.

The performances take place outdoors, starting at 9:30 PM, with gates opening at 8:30 PM and the ticket office in the piazza from 7:00 PM on performance nights.
