The great masquerade festival of Andria, featuring a city parade and square party
The Andria Carnival is the most anticipated masquerade event in Andria, a city in the Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT) province, in the heart of Puglia. After a long hiatus, the city parade has returned to fill the streets of the center with allegorical floats, costumed groups, confetti, and music, reviving a popular tradition deeply felt by the people of Andria.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Andria, through the Departments of Beauty and Person and the Office of Culture and Education, with the coordination of a permanent committee dedicated to the city's Carnival. It is a deeply communal celebration: the parade is not made up of professional troupes, but of the city's vibrant local entities—schools, educational institutes, community groups, parishes, and cultural and sports associations—who spend weeks preparing costumes, choreography, and displays.
The procession kicks off outside the Palasport on Viale Germania and winds through the center along Via Barletta and Via Ferrucci, reaching Piazza Umberto I, where the costumed groups perform for the public. The day concludes with a grand party in Piazza Catuma, the city's beating heart, featuring live music, dancing, and the awarding of participation certificates to the groups.
Each edition revolves around a theme that gives meaning to the festivities and the costumes: it is not just about fun, but also about a shared message of peace, inclusion, and community, directly involving the youngest residents and families of Andria.
Free and held outdoors, the Andria Carnival is designed for everyone to enjoy: children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly fill the streets of the historic center for a day of color and joy. For those visiting Puglia in winter, it is an authentic opportunity to discover the festive and participatory side of Andria, far from the major tourist circuits.
The 2026 Andria Carnival was developed around the theme "Being a bridge. Let's build bridges, together!": the bridge as a symbol of union, connection, transformation, and peace, serving as the common thread for the costumes and group displays. The initiative was promoted by the Municipality of Andria, with the Departments of Beauty and Person and the Office of Culture and Education, together with the permanent city Carnival committee.
The parade, originally scheduled for Shrove Tuesday on February 17, was postponed due to bad weather to Sunday, February 22, 2026. The procession crossed the center, involving schools, educational communities, parishes, and cultural and sports organizations of the city for a day of shared celebration.
The party in the square was enlivened by the trio Zinharua, a group formed between Calabria and Puglia with a sound that blends electronic music, world music, global rhythms, and Mediterranean roots.
Note: The parade was originally scheduled for Shrove Tuesday, February 17, starting at 3:00 PM; following the postponement due to bad weather, the event was held on Sunday, February 22.
The Andria Carnival takes place during the Carnival season, between February and early March, with the main parade held on Shrove Tuesday (or on a nearby date in case of postponement due to bad weather).
The parade starts from the Palasport on Viale Germania and travels along Via Barletta and Via Ferrucci to Piazza Umberto I, ending with the party in Piazza Catuma, in the center of Andria (BAT).
The event is free and open to everyone.
Andria can be reached by car via the SS16 and the A14 motorway (Trani or Canosa exits) and by train via the Ferrotramviaria network (Ferrovie del Nord Barese). During the parade, traffic changes and parking bans are expected in the streets affected by the procession.
