Guided tours through the wineries and vineyards of Ischia island
Andar per Cantine is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the autumn in the municipality of Forio, on the island of Ischia, in the province of Naples and the heart of the Campania region. Organized by Pro Loco Panza, the festival takes place during the grape harvest, between mid-September and early October, opening up the island's private wineriesโmany of which remain closed for the rest of the yearโto the public.
Wine has been part of Ischia's history for over three thousand years: the first vines were brought by Greek settlers from Pithecusa, and even today, the terraced vineyards supported by dry-stone walls, known as parracine, define the island's landscape. Andar per Cantine was created to celebrate this deep bond between the wine and the land.
The heart of the event lies in the guided walking itineraries, which start from Piazza San Leonardo in Panza, a district of Forio. Each route is dedicated to a different grape variety and crosses scenic paths overlooking the sea, with stops at local wineries and farms. Featured wines include Biancolella, Forastera, Per 'e Palummo (Piedirosso), Frassitelli, and Arilla.
The routes are complemented by a rich program of side events dedicated to Ischian wine and culinary culture: harvest dinners at the estates, evenings with guest chefs, and events focused on local dishes like the famous coniglio all'ischitana (Ischian-style rabbit). The festival thus blends nature, gastronomy, and popular traditions into an experience that highlights the island's agricultural identity.
Andar per Cantine is one of the initiatives through which the municipality of Forio and Pro Loco Panza promote cultural and culinary tourism beyond the summer season, inviting visitors and enthusiasts to discover the island of Ischia in autumn, when the vineyards are painted in the colors of the harvest.
Andar per Cantine returns in 2026 to the municipality of Forio, on the island of Ischia, with its well-established formula of walks, winery visits, and tastings of local wines. The detailed calendar for the 2026 edition, including exact dates, itineraries, and the program of side events, will be published by Pro Loco Panza in the weeks leading up to the event.
Ischia can be reached by ferry or hydrofoil from the ports of Naples (Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa) and Pozzuoli. From Ischia Porto, you can reach Panza, a district of Forio, by local bus or by car along the road that crosses the island.
Booking is mandatory for all routes. Departures take place from Piazza San Leonardo in Panza. For information and bookings, contact Pro Loco Panza (tel. +39 081 908436).
The itineraries involve walking on trails: hiking shoes, layered clothing, water, and sunscreen are recommended. The routes are not suitable for those with mobility issues.
