About Spring Livestock Fair

Every spring, Pont-Saint-Martin hosts the Ancient and Great Fair, accompanied by the Livestock Fair: an event documented since the 17th century that brings together merchants, traders, and breeders from the Lower Aosta Valley, Canavese, and Lys Valley. While the town center fills with stalls selling various goods, the livestock fair, featuring Aosta Valley cattle breeds and agricultural machinery, takes place near the cemetery.

The great spring fair

The Ancient and Great Fair of Pont-Saint-Martin, in the Province of Aosta, is the spring counterpart to the renowned autumn Saint Martin's Fair. Like the latter, it has its roots in the 17th century and has always been the most important annual event for merchants and breeders from the Lower Aosta Valley, the nearby Canavese region, and the Lys Valley.

Two fairs in one day

The event spans several areas of the town. In the center — along Via Emile Chanoux and in Piazza 1° Maggio and Piazza IV Novembre — the large market of various goods unfolds, with stalls from traders and agricultural producers. In the Fairground area, near the cemetery, the Livestock Fair is held, featuring an exhibition of prized Aosta Valley cattle breeds and agricultural machinery. The event runs from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

A showcase of the Aosta Valley breed

The livestock component is part of the spring exhibition calendar coordinated by AREV (Association régionale éleveurs valdôtains), dedicated to promoting the Aosta Valley cattle breed, the pride of mountain farming. For local breeders, it's an important opportunity for exchange and trade; for visitors, it's an authentic immersion into the rural culture of Pont-Saint-Martin and the Aosta Valley.

Spring Livestock Fair — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Ancient and Great Fair and Livestock Fair will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The town center will host the market of various goods, while at the Fairground, near the cemetery, the livestock fair will take place with Aosta Valley cattle breeds and agricultural machinery.

The Ancient and Great Fair 2026 confirms the spring event in Pont-Saint-Martin, included in the AREV livestock exhibition calendar dedicated to the Aosta Valley cattle breed.
