The Carnival celebration on the island of Capri, featuring allegorical floats and masquerades
The Anacapri Carnival is one of the most cherished winter traditions in Anacapri, the town nestled on the heights of the island of Capri, in the province of Naples, Campania. For several days, the town center transforms into a grand open-air stage, filled with masks, confetti, music, and vibrant allegorical floats that parade through the main streets to Piazza San Nicola.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Anacapri and involves local schools, associations, and the Youth Forum. The creative heart of the festival lies with the students of the I.I.S.S. "Axel Munthe," who design and build the allegorical floats each year, the true stars of the grand Sunday parade. The participation of the younger generation makes the Anacapri Carnival an event deeply rooted in the island's community identity.
The program spans several days. It opens with the Children's Party, dedicated to kids in costume, and continues with the Grand Parade of Allegorical Floats, which winds through the town in a riot of color and music. The schedule also includes creative workshops, musical shows, and masquerade evenings, leading up to the grand finale on Shrove Tuesday with a silent disco in Piazza San Nicola.
Celebrating Carnival in Anacapri means experiencing a traditional festival in a unique setting: the island of Capri in the off-season, far from the summer crowds. During these days, the townโa member of the National Association of Oil Citiesโreveals its most authentic and popular side, as the locals bring the squares and alleys to life.
The parades and shows of the Anacapri Carnival are free and open to residents and visitors alike. It is the perfect opportunity for families, children, and curious travelers to discover the most genuine and joyful side of island life during the winter.
The 2026 edition of the Anacapri Carnival brought life to Anacapri, on the island of Capri, from February 14 to 17, 2026. The program, promoted by the Municipality of Anacapri, alternated between moments dedicated to children, the spectacular parade of allegorical floats, and musical events, culminating in the Shrove Tuesday grand finale with a silent disco in Piazza San Nicola.
Anacapri can be reached from the island of Capri, which is connected by sea via hydrofoils and ferries from Naples (Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa) and Sorrento. From the port of Marina Grande, you can travel up to Anacapri by bus or taxi along the Capri-Anacapri provincial road.
On parade days, the Municipality issues an ordinance suspending traffic and prohibiting parking along the route (Via Nuova del Faro, Via Caprile, Viale T. De Tommaso, Piazza della Vittoria, and Via G. Orlandi). We recommend exploring the town on foot.
All Anacapri Carnival events are free of charge.
