The traditional reunion of the 'black feathers' in the Chiese Valley
The ANA Gathering of the Bondone Alpini Group is the annual event where the 'black feathers' of the Chiese Valley meet in the small village of Bondone, in the Autonomous Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige. Every year in mid-June, the event combines the memory of the fallen with the conviviality typical of the Alpine world, attracting delegations from neighboring groups and numerous supporters.
The Bondone Alpini Group, inaugurated on December 29, 1963, and dedicated to the memory of Alpino Emilio Cimarolli, who fell in Albania, has about thirty active members and a dozen supporters. Beyond the gathering, the group is a key player in the village's community life: they were among the creators of the Alpine chapel built in the Alpo area and inaugurated in June 2006, a small mountain sanctuary that testifies to the deep bond between the Alpini and their territory.
The reunion follows a well-established ceremony that takes place over the course of a Sunday:
Perched on a natural terrace at about 720 meters above sea level, at the extreme south-western edge of Trentino, the Municipality of Bondone is included in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy circuit. The village, which overlooks Lake Idro and dominates the Chiese Valley, offers participants a setting of great scenic charm, amidst mountains, forests, and historical memory linked to the events of the Counts of Lodron. The gathering is thus also an opportunity to discover one of the most evocative villages in Trentino.
On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the Bondone Alpini Group, led by group leader Sergio Valerio, renewed their traditional reunion. The program kicked off at 9:30 AM with a gathering in Piazza Levata, followed at 10:30 AM by the flag-raising and at 10:50 AM by the parade through the village streets to the Church of the Nativity of Mary, where Archpriest Don Andrea Fava was welcomed for Holy Mass.
At the end of the celebration, a wreath was laid at the War Memorial, followed by the Alpine lunch in Piazza ex Colonia. In the afternoon, at 3:00 PM, the Storo band performed, and at 5:00 PM, the flag-lowering concluded the day. The guest of honor for this edition was Senator Ivo Tarolli.
Bondone can be reached by car from the Chiese Valley (SS237 del Caffaro), near Lake Idro. From Trento, drive through the Valle dei Laghi and the Giudicarie; the nearest motorway exit is Brescia Est (A4), then take the SS237 towards Lake Idro.
The event is free and open to everyone. The Alpine lunch in Piazza ex Colonia is generally by reservation or donation.
Wear comfortable clothing for the parade and outdoor ceremonies. The village of Bondone and the nearby hamlet of Baitoni on Lake Idro are worth a visit on the same day.
