Avezzano's environmental festival celebrating sustainability, nature, and community
Ambientiamoci is the environmental festival promoted by the Department of the Environment of the Municipality of Avezzano, the leading city of the Marsica region in the province of L'Aquila, in the green heart of Abruzzo. Established in 2024, the festival has grown edition after edition to become a widespread event that, for nine days, transforms squares, neighborhoods, schools, and urban spaces into meeting places centered on themes of sustainability, innovation, and the relationship between people, nature, and the territory.
The Ambientiamoci formula combines heart and mind with a green approach: alongside meetings and conferences on environmental issues, the festival offers immersive experiences in contact with nature, educational moments for children, workshops, eco-walks, and opportunities for social gathering. The calendar actively involves local schools, from city comprehensive institutes to high schools such as the I.I.S. "Arrigo Serpieri" and the I.I.S. "Ettore Majorana", which take center stage with agro-technical days, creative projects, and activities dedicated to sustainable innovation.
One of the most characteristic aspects of the festival is its widespread reach: initiatives are not confined to the center but extend to Avezzano's neighborhoods, such as the San Nicola district, with ecological days, extraordinary cleaning of common spaces, walking tours on local historical roots, and moments of shared celebration. Piazza Torlonia and other city squares host show cooking, performances, debates, and the popular Green Night, an evening event organized in collaboration with Confesercenti.
Ambientiamoci is not just a simple calendar of events but a community project that aims to raise awareness in the Marsica region about environmental issues through theater, music, art, science, technology, and sustainable gastronomy. It is an opportunity to discover Avezzano from a different perspective, participate in activities for families and children, and learn about the good environmental practices that animate the Abruzzo region.
The third edition of the Ambientiamoci Environmental Festival, supported by Confesercenti Abruzzo, brought Avezzano to life from May 9 to 17, 2026, with nine days of events spread across squares, neighborhoods, and schools. Presented at Piazza Torlonia, the edition offered immersive experiences in contact with nature, creative workshops, meetings, and moments of sharing designed for all ages, with the active involvement of the "Arrigo Serpieri" and "Ettore Majorana" high schools. Among the most attended moments were the ecological day in the San Nicola neighborhood with extraordinary cleaning, a historical walking tour, and the presentation of the new small square dedicated to the victims of the 1915 earthquake, as well as the show cooking by the Chef Wild in Avezzano.
The third edition offered a widespread program of eco-wild experiences, immersive activities, workshops, meetings, and moments of conviviality in the squares and neighborhoods of Avezzano.
With the participation of the San Nicola Cultural Association APS, Ambecรฒ, Tekneco, and Magicbike.
The Green Night, in collaboration with Confesercenti, concluded the festival program in the city center.
Events are held in various locations in Avezzano (province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo): Piazza Torlonia, the central squares, and city neighborhoods such as San Nicola. The program is spread across multiple venues throughout the week.
The festival typically takes place in the second half of May, lasting approximately nine days.
Most events are free and open to the public. Some initiatives, such as convivial dinners or show cooking, may require reservations.
The festival is organized by the Department of the Environment of the Municipality of Avezzano. For the updated program, it is recommended to consult the official channels of the Municipality.
