About Altamura in Festival

Altamura in Festival is the free summer event series promoted by the Municipality of Altamura, in the province of Bari. Between August and September, Piazza Don Tonino Bello and Piazza Matteotti transform into open-air stages for concerts, vernacular theatre, cabaret, variety shows, and illusionism. A popular and accessible program, with free admission until capacity is reached, bringing the summer evenings of the Murgia city to life.

What is Altamura in Festival

Altamura in Festival is the summer performance series organized and promoted by the Municipal Administration of Altamura, one of the main centers of the Alta Murgia in the province of Bari, Puglia. Created to enliven the summer evenings in the city center, the festival offers a popular and intentionally diverse program, designed for audiences of all ages: from pop and singer-songwriter concerts to dialect theatre, cabaret, variety shows, and even magic and illusionism performances.

Two squares, two souls

The festival takes place in two iconic locations in the center of Altamura, each with its own distinct identity:

  • Piazza Don Tonino Bello — the musical heart of the festival, hosting concerts, orchestras, variety shows, cabaret, and illusionism evenings.
  • Piazza Matteotti — dedicated primarily to vernacular theatre, where local amateur and dialect companies bring the comic and popular traditions of Altamura to the stage.

A community festival

The defining feature of Altamura in Festival is its popular and inclusive spirit: all shows are free of charge, subject to availability, with performances generally starting at 9:00 PM. This formula brings live culture to a broad and diverse audience, combining well-known national performers with local and regional artistic talent, with a special focus on showcasing the traditions of Puglia and the Murgia region.

Altamura and the Murgia

A city in the Province of Bari famous for its PDO bread, the Cathedral commissioned by Frederick II, and the Altamura Man, Altamura turns its summer into an occasion for widespread celebration in its historic squares. The municipal summer festival is one of the most anticipated events in the city's cultural calendar, alongside other events that mark the Murgia year.

2026 Edition

The dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Municipality of Altamura: the summer festival is traditionally announced during the summer season. This page will be updated as soon as the official program is released.
