The cabaret and comedy theatre festival on the Alba Adriatica seafront
Albatraz - Prisoners of Laughter is the cabaret and comedy theatre festival that brings the seafront of Alba Adriatica to life every summer. Located in the province of Teramo, on the northern coast of Abruzzo, the event's title plays on the famous Alcatraz prison, turning the audience into joyful 'prisoners' of comedy. For two consecutive nights, the stage hosts some of the most beloved names in the national comedy scene, featuring jokes, gags, and improvisations.
The evenings take place in the Parco della Bambinopoli, a public park overlooking the town's northern seafront. This green space, just a stone's throw from the beach, becomes an open-air theatre under the August stars. The seaside setting, the evening breeze, and free admission make the festival a perfect destination for families, tourists, and locals alike, filling the area with laughter late into the night.
The Albatraz programme features television comedians, cabaret artists, and stars of Italian comedy theatre, many of whom are familiar faces from shows like Colorado and Zelig. The evenings are hosted by a charismatic presenter who ties the various acts together, alternating between monologues, sketches, and audience interaction. The well-established formula focuses on popular, accessible comedy designed for the large crowds of the summer season.
Launched in the mid-2010s, the festival has grown to become one of the flagship events of Alba Adriatica's summer calendar. It is organized by the Pro Loco Spiaggia d'Argento, with artistic direction by the Lido degli Aranci agency and the patronage of the Municipality of Alba Adriatica. As part of the resort's rich summer schedule—which includes concerts, shows, and seafront initiatives—Albatraz represents the dedicated night of laughter in one of the most vibrant seaside destinations on the Teramo coast.
For the 2026 summer season, Albatraz - Prisoners of Laughter returns to Alba Adriatica for its eleventh edition, scheduled for August 12 and 13 at the Parco della Bambinopoli. The event, part of the local summer calendar, confirms its classic format of two evenings of free cabaret and comedy.
The event is hosted by Francesco Pasquali, a voice from RDS radio. The stage will feature a rotation of comedians and familiar faces from Italian cabaret: announced guests include Paolo Caiazzo, Andrea Peroni, Giovanni Esposito, and the Fratellini Andrea. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Spiaggia d'Argento with artistic direction by the Lido degli Aranci agency and the patronage of the Municipality of Alba Adriatica.
Alba Adriatica can be reached by car via the A14 motorway (Val Vibrata exit) or the SS16 Adriatic state road. By train, the Alba Adriatica-Nereto-Controguerra station is on the Bologna-Bari Adriatic line. The Parco della Bambinopoli is located on the northern seafront, on Via Lungomare Marconi.
Admission to the Albatraz evenings is free. We recommend arriving early to secure a seat. The shows generally start late in the evening.
The full summer programme is available at the Alba Adriatica IAT Tourist Office and through the Pro Loco Spiaggia d'Argento channels.
