About Ala City of Music

Ala City of Music is a summer classical music festival that brings the historic center of Ala, in the province of Trento, to life every July. Organized by the I Virtuosi Italiani orchestra in partnership with the Municipality of Ala, the festival features a series of concerts held in the evocative courtyards and grand halls of the town's Baroque palaces, complemented by masterclasses, workshops, and the 'Giovani Promesse' (Young Promises) project dedicated to emerging talents. It is an event that blends a rich musical repertoire with professional training in an intimate and refined atmosphere.

A classical music festival in the heart of Ala

Ala City of Music is a classical music festival that transforms the village of Ala, in the province of Trento, into an open-air musical laboratory every summer. Established in 2016 and reaching its 11th edition in 2026, the festival is promoted by the I Virtuosi Italiani orchestra in close collaboration with the Municipality of Ala. It runs throughout the month of July, offering a blend of evening concerts, artist meet-and-greets, and advanced training activities.

Baroque palaces as the stage

The uniqueness of the event lies in its venues: concerts are hosted in the courtyards and salons of the Baroque palaces in the historic center, which stand as a testament to the era when Ala was famous throughout Europe for its velvet production. Palazzo Taddei, Palazzo Pizzini—which also houses the Antique Piano Museum—and Palazzo Scherer provide acoustic and scenic settings of rare charm, where the audience can enjoy the music just steps away from the performers.

Concerts, masterclasses, and Young Promises

The program alternates between major symphonic and chamber music events and moments dedicated to younger generations. Alongside the main concerts featuring I Virtuosi Italiani and renowned soloists, the festival offers an intensive educational program: masterclasses and workshops for violin, trumpet, and harp, the Music Summer Camp, and the Giovani Promesse project, which brings students from advanced courses onto the stage for public concerts. This educational focus makes Ala City of Music not just a festival, but a place where new generations of musicians are nurtured and grow.

A summer highlight in Trentino-Alto Adige

Nestled in the Vallagarina valley, between Rovereto and Lake Garda, the festival has become one of the premier musical events of the summer in Trentino-Alto Adige. The intimate setting of the palaces, accessible ticket prices, and the high quality of the artistic offerings make it an ideal experience for classical music lovers and those wishing to discover the historical heritage of Ala in a unique way.

Ala City of Music — edition 2026

The 11th edition of Ala City of Music takes place from July 10 to 29, 2026, in the Baroque palaces of Ala's historic center. Eight main concerts featuring I Virtuosi Italiani and prestigious guests, accompanied by masterclasses, workshops, and the 'Giovani Promesse' project for young violin, trumpet, and harp performers.

Ala City of Music 2026 — 11th Edition

From July 10 to 29, 2026, the eleventh edition of the festival promoted by I Virtuosi Italiani and the Municipality of Ala returns to Ala. The calendar opens on July 10 in the Palazzo Taddei Courtyard with "The Magic of Italian Virtuosity," an inaugural concert featuring violinist Ulisse Mazzon with music by Mozart and Rossini.
