The pork crackling competition and tractor rally in Gazzuolo
Agricicciolo is the festival in Gazzuolo (Province of Mantua) that celebrates one of the most genuine traditions of peasant cuisine: 'ciccioli', pork fat slowly cooked according to ancient custom. In Piazza Garibaldi, on a Sunday in February, the event combines gastronomy, rural culture, and social life, with the Gazzuolo Municipal AVIS coordinating.
The heart of the festival is the 'ciccioli' cooking competition, which begins early in the morning, accompanied by a program that evokes the region's agricultural world:
Agricicciolo tells the story of the rural identity of the lower Mantua region, where pork processing has always been part of the food culture and winter traditions. A festival that combines authentic flavors, peasant memory, and community spirit.
The 2026 edition, the first, takes place on Sunday, February 8, in Piazza Garibaldi in Gazzuolo. The day begins with the cooking of the 'ciccioli' from 7:30 AM, continues with the agricultural tractor rally at 9:00 AM and the parade in the surrounding villages at 10:30 AM; an artisan market is set up under the arcades. The award ceremony for the 'ciccioli' competition is scheduled for 2:30 PM. The event is organized by the Gazzuolo Municipal AVIS.
Gazzuolo is located in the lower Mantua region, in the province of Mantua, along Provincial Road 58 and near the Oglio River. The festival takes place in Piazza Garibaldi and under the arcades in the town center.
Free admission. The 'ciccioli' cooking starts from the early morning hours, the tractor rally in the morning, and the award ceremony in the afternoon.
