Two days to discuss land, the future, and identity in Alatri
The Agrarian Festival, with the subtitle "Cultivating the Future", is a new cultural and educational event held in Alatri, in the heart of the province of Frosinone, in the Lazio region. The initiative was created by the "Sandro Pertini" Higher Education Institute with the patronage of the Municipality of Alatri, transforming the school's agricultural department into a meeting point for students, teachers, businesses, and citizens to discuss agriculture, the environment, and ecology.
The festival spans two days, each with its own guiding theme. The first is dedicated to "Climate & Green: forest nursery and urban greening as sustainability strategies", a journey reflecting on the role of trees and green spaces in cities as a concrete response to climate change. The second day addresses "The contemporary agricultural enterprise between tradition and innovation", showcasing how the agricultural world can combine ancient roots with new technologies.
The heart of the festival lies in the educational workshops led by professors from the agricultural department, with students taking center stage as the true narrators of the practical activities. The event features the participation of the sector's main organizations โ Coldiretti, Confagricoltura, and the Confederazione Italiana Agricoltori โ which bring testimonies, data, and experiences from the production world. The festival thus becomes a bridge between school education and the economic fabric of the Ciociaria territory.
Behind the festival are real projects carried out by the institute: the cultivation of the Olivella Nera, the production of extra virgin olive oil from the Moraiolo cultivar, the reproduction of seeds for the typical broccoletto di Alatri, and an agreement for the management of urban green spaces. These initiatives intertwine local agricultural identity, biodiversity protection, and the training of new generations.
Aimed at students, families, farmers, and the curious, the Agrarian Festival serves as a moment of dialogue between school and community in southern Lazio. In a land like Ciociaria, where agriculture remains a living part of the identity, the event truly aims to "cultivate the future," starting from the school desks and the institute's fields.
The inaugural edition of the Agrarian Festival took place in Alatri, in the province of Frosinone, on May 28-29, 2026, transforming the "Sandro Pertini" Institute into a laboratory open to the city on the themes of land, the environment, and contemporary agriculture.
