About Agone Festival

In June, Germignaga celebrates the tradition of lake fishing with the Sagra dell'Agone, also known as the Fishermen's Festival. In Località Boschetto, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, you can enjoy fried agone, the lake's symbolic fish, accompanied by live music and fireworks. A village festival organized by the Pro Loco, combining authentic lake flavors with the conviviality of summer evenings in the Varese area.

The Agone, the fish of Lake Maggiore

The Agone Festival, also called the Fishermen's Festival, is the celebration in Germignaga (Province of Varese) that honors one of the oldest traditions of the area: fishing in Lake Maggiore. The agone, a freshwater fish typical of the lake, is the absolute star, served according to the traditional lake recipe.

Lake flavors and summer celebration

The event, organized by the Pro Loco Germignaga, takes place in Località Boschetto, on the lake shores, with a program that combines gastronomy and entertainment:

  • Fried agone, the festival's signature dish;
  • Lake fish specialties of local tradition;
  • Live music in the evenings;
  • Fireworks over Lake Maggiore.

The Agone Festival keeps alive the culture of fishing and lake flavors, in an era when these traditions risk disappearing. For Germignaga, it is an identity-defining event, capable of attracting residents and tourists in a naturally beautiful setting between the Tresa river and Lake Maggiore.
