The fishermen's festival on Lake Maggiore
The Agone Festival, also called the Fishermen's Festival, is the celebration in Germignaga (Province of Varese) that honors one of the oldest traditions of the area: fishing in Lake Maggiore. The agone, a freshwater fish typical of the lake, is the absolute star, served according to the traditional lake recipe.
The event, organized by the Pro Loco Germignaga, takes place in Località Boschetto, on the lake shores, with a program that combines gastronomy and entertainment:
The Agone Festival keeps alive the culture of fishing and lake flavors, in an era when these traditions risk disappearing. For Germignaga, it is an identity-defining event, capable of attracting residents and tourists in a naturally beautiful setting between the Tresa river and Lake Maggiore.
The 2026 edition takes place on June 24 and 25 in Località Boschetto, Germignaga, on Lake Maggiore. The Pro Loco Germignaga offers the traditional fried agone and lake fish specialties, accompanied by live music and fireworks over the lake, in two evenings of celebration that honor the culture of lake fishing.
Germignaga is located in the province of Varese, on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore, accessible via the SS394 and served by the train station. The festival takes place in Località Boschetto, by the lake.
Free admission. Food stalls generally open for dinner on the festival evenings.
