The international film festival for architecture and design
The Afragola Film Festival – Beyond the Vision is an international film event exploring the profound connection between moving images, architecture, and design. Born in Afragola, in the metropolitan city of Naples, Campania, the festival has turned a territory in the northern Neapolitan area into a landmark for filmmakers, students, and design professionals.
The heart of the event is the competition, divided into several categories: short fiction, documentary, and animation films, as well as feature films. Works are selected from hundreds of submissions from dozens of countries, with a special focus on films capable of capturing urban space, the suburbs, and the relationship between humans and the built environment. Alongside screenings, the festival presents awards to leading figures in contemporary architecture and design.
Beyond screenings, the Afragola Film Festival offers masterclasses, workshops, and meetings with directors, screenwriters, architects, and designers. A significant portion of the audience consists of students from local schools and universities, who are involved daily in educational activities designed to introduce new generations to audiovisual language and design culture.
Conceived by Gianluigi Osteri and Sebastiano Paciello and organized by Gabbianella Club Events, the festival has grown edition after edition to become one of the most popular cultural events in Afragola and Campania. The main venue is the Teatro Cinema Gelsomino, one of the most active cultural spaces in the northern area of Naples. The event is supported by the Municipality of Afragola and the Ministry of Culture, with the collaboration of institutions such as the University of Naples Federico II, the Order of Architects of Naples, and the Campania Region Film Commission.
The Afragola Film Festival is traditionally held in November. Following the fifth edition in 2025, which saw record attendance, the event is preparing for its 2026 edition, with an international call for entries already open to filmmakers worldwide.
The sixth edition of the Afragola Film Festival is announced for November 2026 at the Teatro Cinema Gelsomino in Afragola, Campania. Following the record-breaking 2025 edition, the organization has opened the international call for entries to filmmakers worldwide. Exact dates and the detailed program have not yet been made public.
Screenings and meetings take place primarily at the Teatro Cinema Gelsomino in Afragola (NA), Campania.
Afragola is easily accessible from Naples by car via the Asse Mediano and the ring road. The Napoli Afragola high-speed railway station, designed by Zaha Hadid, connects the city to the main national rail networks.
