Patti travels back to the 12th century in honor of the Great Countess of Sicily
Every year, the Municipality of Patti, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Gulf in the province of Messina and at the foot of the Nebrodi Park, dedicates a grand historical re-enactment to the figure of Adelasia del Vasto (Adelasia Incisa del Vasto), Great Countess of Sicily and Queen of Jerusalem, wife of the Great Count Roger I of Hauteville and a key protagonist of the Norman epic on the island. For two days, the historic center and the Villa Comunale Umberto I turn into the vibrant heart of the Sicilian Middle Ages, transporting visitors back to the 12th century.
The most anticipated moment of the event is the Grand Historical Pageant, which brings together hundreds of performers, musicians, flag-wavers, and knights from numerous Sicilian communities. The procession winds through the streets of the center—from Piazza Cavour along Via XX Settembre, Via Vittorio Emanuele, Via Cesare Battisti, Via G. Verdi, Piazza Niosi, and Via Monastra—culminating in a triumphant arrival at the Villa Comunale, in a vibrant display of period costumes, noblewomen, men-at-arms, and banners.
Immersion in the 12th century continues at the Medieval Village set up in the Villa Comunale: ancient forgotten crafts, merchants, and scenes of daily life from Adelasia's time, complete with encampments and armories, interactive medieval fencing sessions, and historical archery. Highlights include:
The evenings come alive with drum performances, courtly and folk dances curated by associations such as Sicularagonensia and A.S.D. Alma Bailante, as well as educational sessions on the arming of a knight. Attractions include the "Equites Maenarum" equestrian show and juggling and fire performances, with a grand finale by ShaRà featuring dance, fire choreography, and nocturnal magic.
Promoted by the Pro Loco of Patti and the Municipality of Patti, the re-enactment has become one of the town's defining events, successfully combining the promotion of historical heritage, local animation, and tourism. Admission to all events is free, making the festival accessible to families, history enthusiasts, and visitors looking for an authentic dive into Norman Sicily.

The heart of the event is the Grand Historical Pageant, with hundreds of performers, musicians, flag-wavers, and knights from all over Sicily parading from Piazza Cavour along the streets of the center to the Villa Comunale. Also on the program is the "Equites Maenarum" equestrian show, drum performances, and courtly dances with Sicularagonensia and A.S.D. Alma Bailante, followed by the grand dance and fire finale with ShaRà. The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of Patti with the Municipality of Patti; admission to all events is free.
