A month of festive events, markets, music, and tradition in Piazza Girolamo Fabrizio
Every year, from December 8th until Epiphany, Acquapendente transforms into a charming Christmas village. The Natale Aquesiano is the festive program through which the Municipality of Acquapendente, in the province of Viterbo (Lazio), brings the historic center to life for an entire month. Craft markets, concerts, children's shows, and traditional events turn Piazza Girolamo Fabrizio and the town's streets into a festive hub, where the community gathers in the most authentic winter atmosphere.
The heart of the event is the Christmas market, which opens several times in Piazza Girolamo Fabrizio with wooden stalls dedicated to crafts, gifts, and local products. On the main Sundays, the Santa's Grotto arrives—a highlight for the little ones—alongside street performers, live music, and games. The festivities conclude on January 6th with the Befana descent, a street band, and a prize lottery, in an afternoon that fills the square with families.
The program places great emphasis on music. The evocative Church of San Francesco hosts sacred concerts, such as the Baroque concert by the Coro Francigena and the Epiphany concert, while the Teatro Boni hosts performances by the town band and the Municipal School of Music. The most anticipated moment is the grand gospel concert by Harlem's Anthony Morgan's Inspirational Choir, bringing the voices of New York directly to Piazza Girolamo Fabrizio.
The Natale Aquesiano is born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Acquapendente, the Pro Loco, the Teatro Boni, schools, parishes, and numerous local associations, with the support of the Lazio Region. It is the local schoolchildren, choirs, and bands that make the program so heartfelt: from «Carols under the tree» to student performances, every event tells the story of this Tuscia village, also famous for the Festa dei Pugnaloni.
The 2025-2026 Christmas program in Acquapendente kicked off on December 8th with the opening of the market and the lighting of the tree, continuing until Epiphany. Highlights included the «Jubilee in the Baroque» concert by the Coro Francigena in San Francesco, the gospel concert by Harlem's Anthony Morgan's Inspirational Choir on December 21st, and concerts by the band and the Municipal School of Music at the Teatro Boni. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Acquapendente with the Pro Loco, Teatro Boni, and local associations, concluded on January 6th with Santa's Grotto, a street band, a lottery draw, and the Befana descent.
Acquapendente is located in the far north of Lazio, on the border with Tuscany and Umbria. By car, it can be reached via the Via Cassia (SS2) or the A1 motorway (Orvieto exit, about 20 km away). The nearest train station is Orvieto, which is connected by bus lines.
During event days, the Municipality suspends parking fees in the historic center to facilitate access to Piazza Girolamo Fabrizio.
Markets and events in the square are free to enter; some shows at the Teatro Boni may require reservations or tickets. Information is available on the Acquapendente Municipality website.
