A day of wine, heritage, and tastings in the Cathedral City
Acerenza, an ancient village in the province of Potenza perched on a hill overlooking the Bradano river, is one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and a true capital of Lucanian wine. Known as the "Cathedral City" for its imposing Romanesque-Gothic cathedral, Acerenza has earned the prestigious title of Italian Wine City 2026-2027, a valuable opportunity to promote and enhance the territory and its winemaking tradition.
On April 25th, the village offers a day entirely dedicated to its excellences, blending historical heritage with food and wine tradition. The route winds through the historic center to the Cathedral of Acerenza, one of the most majestic in the region and a symbol of a community that preserves and values its roots. Walking through the medieval alleys, with panoramic views and centuries-old architecture, becomes a journey back in time culminating before the grand Romanesque monument.
The absolute protagonist is wine, particularly Aglianico del Vulture, one of the most prized red wines in Basilicata and in Italy, known since ancient Roman times. For enthusiasts, a guided tasting is available at the Cantina Loguercio-Polosa, with an itinerary featuring wines and typical local products: olive oil, cheeses, and local specialties born from a family-run agricultural economy.
A day designed for those who love to combine the discovery of historical heritage with the pleasure of good wine, in one of Basilicata's most charming villages.
The 2026 edition of Acerenza Lucanian Capital of Wine, scheduled for April 25th, celebrates the village's recognition as Italian Wine City 2026-2027. The day offers an itinerary blending historical heritage and food and wine: a journey through the historic center leading to the majestic Cathedral, with the opportunity for a guided tasting of regional wines and typical products.
