A weekend of comedy beneath the waterfall

A Waterfall of Laughter is the event that, at the end of May, transforms the center of Isola del Liri, in the province of Frosinone (Lazio), into a large open-air stage dedicated to good humor. The title plays on the town's most famous landmark: the Cascata Grande (Great Waterfall), which drops over twenty meters right in the middle of the town—a nearly unique case in Italy. For two consecutive evenings, that water-filled landscape serves as the backdrop for comedy shows, music, and street food.

Comedy and music along the city streets

The heart of the event is the evening entertainment, taking place between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM along the streets and squares of the center. A host and a DJ accompany the evening with music and entertainment, while comedians announced by the Municipality take the stage on both nights. This is not a closed-door show: the public strolls, stops, and moves on, with comedy blending into the buzz of the evening promenade.

Food stalls and the flavors of Ciociaria

Along the route, you will find food stalls offering local dishes and products alongside classic village festival fare. Ciociaria is a land of honest, generous cuisine: homemade pasta, cured meats, sheep's milk cheeses, Liri Valley olive oil, and traditional rustic desserts. The stalls allow you to dine outdoors without interrupting your stroll between comedy acts, in a format that mirrors the summer festivals of southern Lazio.

A space dedicated to children

A significant part of the event is reserved for families: the program includes a large area dedicated to children, with games and entertainment designed to make the evenings accessible to the little ones. This is a choice consistent with the popular nature of the initiative, which aims to bring all age groups to the historic center and encourage families to stay in town after sunset.

Motors in the square: the Lamborghini gathering

The second day features an event that has attracted many curious onlookers: a Lamborghini car gathering between Corso Roma and Via Verdi, held in the early afternoon on Sunday. The cars from the Sant'Agata Bolognese manufacturer, founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini, are displayed in the pedestrian area of the center and can be admired up close, creating an unexpected bridge between the village festival and Italian automotive culture.

Isola del Liri, the village of waterfalls

A town of just over eleven thousand inhabitants, Isola del Liri rises on a river island formed by the splitting of the Liri River. In addition to the Cascata Grande, the town preserves the Cascata del Valcatoio and the Boncompagni-Viscogliosi Castle, which overlooks the town from the top of a rocky spur. Its historical industrial vocation, linked to 19th-century paper mills powered by water, has left a compact and lively urban fabric, ideal for widespread events like this one.

A rich spring calendar

"A Waterfall of Laughter" is not an isolated episode: it is part of a dense calendar of events that the Municipality of Isola del Liri concentrates between the end of May and the beginning of June. In the days immediately following, the town hosts "The Garden of Taste", with live music and a food and beverage area in the Parco Verde Viscogliosi on Via Valcatoio, while in the following weeks the village hosts other historical re-enactments and neighborhood festivals. Those who arrive for the laughter can thus extend their visit and discover an entire territory in celebration.
