The literary festival that turns Ragusa into a capital of books
A Tutto Volume - Ragusa Book Festival is one of the most beloved cultural events of the Sicilian summer. Established in 2009, the festival transforms the Iblean capital into a vast, open-air stage every year. For four days, the squares, churches, and courtyards of Ragusa host writers, journalists, scientists, musicians, and artists for dozens of free events. The festival is promoted by the La Girandola cultural association and was conceived by Alessandro Di Salvo.
The festival's strength lies in its natural scenery. Events are spread across three iconic locations in the municipality of Ragusa: Marina di Ragusa, with its Rotonda sul Mare overlooking the Mediterranean; Ragusa Superiore, the modern city that serves as the hub for afternoon sessions; and Ragusa Ibla, the UNESCO World Heritage Baroque jewel, where Piazza Duomo and ancient alleys host the closing events. Walking between venues is part of the experience, winding through staircases, late-Baroque churches, and panoramic views of the Iblean mountains.
Each edition features a program divided into thematic sections dedicated to literature, current affairs, science and the environment, music, art, and photography, as well as biographies and major contemporary social issues. Alongside author meetings, there are concerts, lecture-performances, readings, and workshops designed for children and teenagers, making A Tutto Volume an event for the whole family.
With over 25,000 participants expected from all over Italy, A Tutto Volume has become one of the most important literary gatherings in Southern Italy and a driver for cultural tourism in the Iblean territory. The festival enhances the bond between books and places, leading readers to discover Ragusa and its province during one of the most beautiful seasons of the year.
The seventeenth edition of the festival was held in Ragusa from June 11th to 14th, 2026, under the direction of Alessandro Di Salvo, Antonio Pascale, Massimo Polidoro, and Paolo Verri for the La Girandola association. The inauguration, on June 11th at the Rotonda sul Mare in Marina di Ragusa, was entrusted to Pacifico with a narrative and musical show dedicated to Ornella Vanoni.
Among the guests were Stefania Auci, Daria Bignardi, Dario Bressanini, Serena Dandini, Gherardo Colombo, Piercamillo Davigo, Vito Mancuso, Gianni Riotta, Vera Gheno, and the French writer Olivier Norek, in Italy to present his historical novel. The closing event, on June 14th in Piazza Duomo in Ragusa Ibla, brought together Serena Dandini and Gherardo Colombo for a discussion on the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic.
A new addition to this edition was the Polara "Parole Solari" Award, dedicated to fiction that tells the story of Sicily, awarded to Simona Lo Iacono for her novel "Joanna degli incanti".
