The festival of the new wine tapping in the village of Pollino
In Castelluccio Inferiore, a village in the Pollino area in the Province of Potenza, the arrival of winter coincides with one of the town's most beloved festivals: A' Pricicchia, the festival of new wine. The name derives from the dialectal term "pricicchij", the wooden bung used to tap the barrel of wine: the entire event, now in its twentieth edition, revolves around the ritual of the first tapping of the new wine, traditionally linked to the Immaculate Conception holiday (7-8 December).
During the festival, the historic cellars and old houses in the centre open their doors to visitors for a charming food and wine journey through the alleys of the ancient village. In each cellar, you can taste the new wine and traditional Lucanian specialities: fried foods like crispedde and "pitticedd' al pomodoro", hot dishes like "cotn e fasul", homemade ravioli, and local typical products. It is a community festival that effectively opens the town's Christmas season, in a warm and convivial atmosphere.
Castelluccio Inferiore boasts a historic centre of great charm, with narrow streets, arches, and stone doorways, located on the edge of the Pollino National Park. A' Pricicchia is the time when this heritage comes alive: amidst the aroma of wine, the warmth of lit fireplaces, and the flavours of peasant cuisine, the village transforms into a living stage for Lucanian tradition. An authentic festival, perfect for those who want to experience the winter of inland Basilicata in the most genuine way, far from the beaten tourist paths.
In 2026, Castelluccio Inferiore will once again renew the centuries-old tradition of A' Pricicchia, the festival of new wine, around the Immaculate Conception holiday (7-8 December). The precise dates will be announced by the Municipality and the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
The heart of the festival remains the first tapping of new wine in the historic cellars of the centre, open to visitors for a food and wine itinerary through the village alleys, with tastings of wine and traditional Lucanian dishes.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be published by the Municipality of Castelluccio Inferiore and the Pro Loco in the coming weeks.
Based on previous editions, the festival typically includes:
