The Renaissance festival that brings the Fortress of Forlimpopoli back to life
Every spring, Forlimpopoli, a small town in Emilia-Romagna in the province of Forlì-Cesena, transforms into an open-air Renaissance set. The festival "A Day in the Fortress", organized by the Pro Loco Forlimpopoli with the patronage of the Municipality, enlivens the Ordelaffa Fortress (also known as Albornoziana) and the ancient heart of the town for an entire weekend, including Piazza Garibaldi, the Fortress moat, and the historic halls.
The common thread of the event is the re-enactment of the return of Count Brunoro II Zampeschi, lord of Forlimpopoli in the 16th century: a historical pretext to fill the streets with costumed participants, encampments, artisan workshops, and ancient crafts.
With free admission to all events, "A Day in the Fortress" is one of Romagna's most beloved re-enactments: it combines historical education, entertainment, and gastronomy in a charming setting, ideal for a spring trip to Emilia-Romagna filled with history, popular culture, and good food.
The XLVII edition of the Forlimpopoli Renaissance festival was held from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, 2026, enlivening the Ordelaffa Fortress and the historic center. The program combined historical exhibitions and meetings, market and Renaissance games, tournaments in the Fortress moat, and the grand Sunday pageant dedicated to the return of Count Brunoro II Zampeschi. Organized by Pro Loco Forlimpopoli with the patronage of the Municipality, the event confirmed its free admission formula.
