A mountain celebration marking the arrival of summer and the 25th anniversary of the Rueglio AIB Volunteer Firefighters
Some festivals don't need grand stages or famous names to be truly special: the Summer Solstice Festival in Rueglio, a small village in the Valchiusella valley near Turin, is one of them. Held at the Cima Bossola Refuge, 1,100 meters up on the western side of the valley, it is surrounded by woods and meadows overlooking the Alps. This is how the Rueglio community welcomes the summer, immersed in the nature of the Piedmontese Canavese region.
The 2026 edition holds particular meaning: it celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Rueglio AIB and Civil Protection ODV, the volunteer forest firefighting and civil protection association that has been caring for the local land, forests, and trails for a quarter of a century. The festival is a moment to recognize and thank those who watch over the mountains year-round. The event is organized by the Rueglio AIB Squad in collaboration with the Cima Bossola Refuge and supported by the Municipality of Rueglio.
The summer solstice, the longest day of the year, has always been linked to rituals of light, fire, and popular celebration throughout the Alpine region. In Rueglio, this translates into an open-air day at the refuge, filled with good company, mountain cuisine, and community spirit. It is the kind of event that defines the identity of a village of fewer than 800 people, where community life and a deep bond with the forest remain central.
The Cima Bossola Refuge, located in the Marciana area, is a mountain hut offering a bar, restaurant, and overnight accommodation. It can be reached by car from Rueglio via the Bossola road or on foot via forest trails. Its panoramic position makes it the ideal spot to experience the solstice festival in direct contact with the nature of Valchiusella.
The 2026 edition of the Summer Solstice Festival took place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Cima Bossola Refuge in Rueglio, in a special edition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Rueglio AIB and Civil Protection ODV. The initiative was organized by the volunteer forest firefighting team in collaboration with the refuge and supported by the Municipality of Rueglio.
