Ten years of friendship between the Pinerolo area and Piedmontese Argentina
During the first week of June 2026, San Pietro Val Leminaโa small town of about 1,450 residents at the entrance to the Val Lemina, in the province of Turin and the heart of the Pinerolo areaโhosted four days of celebrations for the tenth anniversary of the twinning with the Argentine city of Oliva, in the province of Cordoba. An Argentine delegation, promoted by the "Giuseppe Mazzini" Italian Association of Oliva and led by president Teresita Ramonda, traveled to Piedmont to renew a friendship that bridges two communities thousands of kilometers apart.
The twinning was officially signed on October 17, 2015, but its roots lie in a shared history dating back over a century, when many families from the Val Lemina emigrated to Argentina in search of new opportunities. As a testament to this bond, the "Monument to the Piedmontese in the World" was erected in San Pietro, while a "Twinning Monument" stands along the Ruta Nacional nยฐ 9 in Oliva. The initiative has always been supported by the Twinning Committee and the Piedmontese in the World Association.
During their stay, the Argentine guests visited Turin and the headquarters of the Regional Council of Piedmont, as well as numerous sites throughout the Pinerolo area. There were many meetings with local officials, students, entrepreneurs, and volunteers, with sessions dedicated to the schools of San Pietro Val Lemina and Pinerolo, designed to involve the younger generations in the memory of the migrations that united Piedmont and Argentina. Visits also included the Emigration Museum of Frossasco and the Diocesan Museum.
The heart of the festivities was the official tenth-anniversary ceremony, accompanied by the unveiling of a commemorative monument and a Eucharistic celebration in the parish church of San Pietro, followed by a concluding gala evening that brought together Italian and Argentine citizens in an atmosphere of mutual friendship and gratitude.
More than just a celebration, the tenth anniversary of the twinning represents for San Pietro Val Lemina and the entire Pinerolo area a moment of recognition of their roots and the deep ties that unite Piedmont with Latin America. It is the story of the "Piedmontese in the world" that continues to live on, passed down to new generations on both sides of the ocean.
