The International Day of Yoga at the Stadio della Farnesina
Every year on June 21st, Rome joins hundreds of cities worldwide in celebrating the International Day of Yoga, an observance established by the UN in 2014 following a proposal from India. In the Capital, the event is known as Yoga Day Rome and takes place in an exceptional setting: the Stadio della Farnesina, located within the historic Foro Italico complex in the Ponte Milvio district. Promoted by CSEN (National Educational Sports Centre) and its National Yoga Sector, the event has grown with each edition to become one of the most attended yoga gatherings in Italy.
The format is that of a large collective outdoor practice: thousands of mats are spread across the stadium pitch, and from late afternoon until the sunset of the longest day of the year, guided sessions of asana, pranayama, and meditation take place. The classes are led in turns by the city's historic schools, each with its own style and masters, in an atmosphere of sharing that unites both long-time practitioners and those approaching yoga for the first time. Admission is free and open to all levels: just bring your own mat and a water bottle.
Yoga Day Rome is not just a day of wellness. The event drives the Yoga Day Rome 4 Impact project, which directs its energy toward concrete social causes: pediatric cardiology, women's protection, animal welfare, and urban reforestation. Great attention is paid to inclusivity, with LIS (Italian Sign Language) interpreters for the deaf audience, accessible spaces, and support staff, thanks also to the patronage of the Italian Deaf Sports Federation (FSSI). One edition even featured a moment dedicated to the Gardens of Castel Sant'Angelo, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, highlighting the deep bond between this discipline and its land of origin.
In the summer event calendar of Rome Capital and the Lazio region, Yoga Day Rome now holds a permanent spot: a different way to experience the city, made of breath, shared silence, and the search for balance between body, mind, and environment. The Foro Italico location, with its architecture and green spaces overlooking the Tiber, adds charm to an event that records record-breaking numbers every year and confirms how much wellness has become part of the Capital's culture.
The fifth edition of Yoga Day Rome took place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Stadio della Farnesina, on the day of the summer solstice. The chosen theme, "ONE HEALTH", focused on the integrated well-being of human beings, animals, and the environment, within a single health perspective. With doors opening at 5:00 PM and practice starting at 6:00 PM, the day continued until sunset in front of a record-breaking audience, with over 5,000 participants expected.
The program featured four 40-minute masterclasses led by Master Trainers from the Capital's historic schools: YogaArte (Michela Manuppella and Flaminia Tolomeo), Yoga Suite (Yoss Giancarlo Miggiano), and Yoga Wave (Arianna Renzetti and Ruggero Ruggeri), with the addition of Odaka Yoga by Roberto Milletti in the "Zen Warriors" format. The evening was hosted by godmother Stella Manente.
As part of the SIA Project, the 2026 edition supported four social causes - pediatric cardiology, women's protection, animal welfare, and urban reforestation - while ensuring full accessibility with LIS interpreters and the patronage of the FSSI.
Edition theme: "ONE HEALTH". What to bring: personal mat and water bottle.
