The world's leading photojournalism exhibition at Palazzo Esposizioni
The World Press Photo Exhibition is one of the most anticipated photography events of the year in Rome. Every spring, the Palazzo Esposizioni on Via Nazionale, in the Monti district, hosts the Italian leg of the exhibition, which gathers the winning images from the most authoritative international photojournalism competition, organized since 1955 by the World Press Photo Foundation in Amsterdam. It is a staple of the capital's cultural calendar and a highlight of the Roman spring.
The halls of Palazzo Esposizioni display photographs and projects selected by an international jury from tens of thousands of entries submitted by photojournalists worldwide. The images are organized according to the competition's structure, divided by global regions and categories including single photos, stories, and long-term projects.
More than just an exhibition, World Press Photo serves as a visual archive of the past year: a collective portrait of the world that challenges us to consider the role of images in shaping our shared memory. The winning shots, often raw and powerful, invite the public to pause, observe, and reflect on issues that affect the entire planet.
The exhibition is held at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma, a historic venue on Via Nazionale managed by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo and promoted by Roma Culture, the Cultural Department of the City of Rome. Its central location, just a short walk from Piazza della Repubblica and the Roman Forum, makes it easily accessible and a perfect stop on any cultural itinerary in the heart of the Lazio region.
Designed for photography enthusiasts and the general public alike, the World Press Photo Exhibition in Rome combines journalistic quality, social commitment, and aesthetic power. It is a unique opportunity to engage with contemporary photojournalism and to understand, through images, the major events shaping international news.
The 69th edition of the exhibition arrives at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma from May 7 to June 29, 2026. The exhibition presents the winning works from the most recent edition of the competition, selected by an international jury from 57,376 photographs submitted by 3,747 photographers from 141 countries, totaling 42 projects on display.
The exhibition, organized by the World Press Photo Foundation in Amsterdam, is promoted by Roma Culture and the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, in collaboration with 10b Photography. The images are arranged by global regions and provide a portrait of the past year, covering news, conflicts, the environment, and daily life.
On display are the winners and finalists of the 69th edition of the competition, organized by geographical regions and categories (single photos, stories, and long-term projects).
