Two evenings of wine, Irpinian cuisine, and music in the village of Taurasi
As darkness falls over the hills of the Avellino province, Torre Le Nocelle lights up its two most beautiful streets, transforming them into a tasting trail. Wine Nights is the summer festival that this small Irpinian town dedicates to its local wine and cuisine: two consecutive evenings where Piazza Vittoria and Via Nicola de Dominicis fill with stalls, tables, and makeshift stages. There are no enclosures or pavilions; you simply walk, pause at a stall, and continue with a glass in hand toward the next square.
The event is part of Wine Nights, the summer format promoted by the National Association of Wine Cities, the network that has brought together Italy's wine-growing municipalities since 1987. In the 2026 edition, the festival reached its largest scale ever: over 500 municipalities across 14 regions, with events scheduled from June 21 to September 23. Each stop remains deeply local, organized by the local Pro Loco and municipal administrations. In Torre Le Nocelle, the event is directed by the Pro Loco Torre Le Nocelle APS, which builds the program in collaboration with local producers and associations.
Torre Le Nocelle is one of the municipalities within the Taurasi DOCG production zone, the great red wine made from Aglianico grapes that has made Irpinia famous far beyond the borders of Campania. The municipal territory also falls under the Irpinia and Campania denominations, a mosaic that allows tasting stalls to offer long-aged reds alongside local whites and rosés. Tastings are the common thread of the two evenings: you taste, chat with the winemakers, learn to read a label, and discover how to recognize different vintages.
The event is also an opportunity to discover the town. Torre Le Nocelle is located almost equidistant from Avellino and Benevento and preserves a medieval historic center: its name derives from Turris Nucillae, the tower where, according to tradition, hazelnuts were stored. The Sanctuary of Saint Ciriacus Deacon and Martyr, a pilgrimage destination, houses artifacts that testify to the site's ancient history. During Wine Nights, the food and wine trail naturally intertwines with these landmarks, turning the stroll into a small, open-air guided tour.
Visitors from out of town will find exactly what they are looking for in an authentic village festival: no artificial scenery, just a town that opens its doors, families setting tables in front of their homes, young people serving at the stalls, and bands playing late into the night. It is an evening accessible to everyone, suitable for those traveling with children, and at the same time a great starting point for those who want to visit Irpinian wineries in the following days. The Irpinian summer is full of similar events, but Wine Nights remains one of the most recognizable, as it links the individual village to a national network that brings the same vision to all of Italy.
The village in the province of Avellino participated in the national Wine Nights circuit again in 2026, with two events scheduled for Sunday, July 26, and Monday, July 27. The two evenings were held in Piazza Vittoria and along Via Nicola de Dominicis, the heart of the town, transformed for the occasion into a trail of tasting stalls and food stands.
The 2026 edition of the format promoted by the National Association of Wine Cities reached its largest scale in history, with over 500 municipalities involved across 14 regions and a calendar extending from June 21 to September 23. Torre Le Nocelle, located within the Taurasi DOCG production zone, showcased its own oenological offerings alongside Irpinian cuisine.
The event was built around the promotion of local food and wine products and the cultural heritage of the territory, featuring wine tastings, food stands, live music, and cultural insights. The organization was managed by the Pro Loco Torre Le Nocelle APS.
