About Wine and Mostarda Festival

Nestled in the heart of the Agrò Valley, the small village of Limina celebrates its annual Wine and Mostarda Festival, titled "Limina: Taste and Tradition." Organized by the local Pro Loco in collaboration with the municipal administration, the event brings Piazza Marconi and Via Garibaldi to life with food and wine stalls showcasing new wine and mostarda—a traditional grape-based dessert that defines Sicilian rural culture. Featuring live tastings, local artisanal products, and folk performances, it is a genuine celebration of the identity of this corner of the Messina province.

A celebration of taste in the Peloritani mountains

The Wine and Mostarda Festival is the autumn event that annually transforms Limina—a small village in the Metropolitan City of Messina perched at 550 meters on the Ionian side of the Peloritani mountains—into a showcase of local culinary tradition. Overlooking the Agrò Valley and dominated by Mount Kalfa, the village welcomes residents and visitors to Piazza Marconi and along Via Garibaldi, where the food stalls come to life.

New wine and mostarda: the absolute stars

The heart of the event lies in two symbols of the rural autumn: new wine and mostarda, a sweet treat made from grape must. Its preparation is rooted in centuries-old agricultural culture, when farming families created it to preserve the fruits of the harvest for longer. At the stalls, you can taste the mostarda in two versions: warm, freshly prepared, and dried. The festival features live demonstrations of the mostarda-making process, paying homage to knowledge passed down through generations.

Flavors, crafts, and folklore

Alongside the wine and mostarda, the stalls offer typical local products and regional culinary specialties, while exhibitors showcase the village's craftsmanship, from ceramics to textiles. The evenings are enlivened by live music and folk groups, creating a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.

  • Tastings of new wine and warm or dried mostarda

A village to discover

The festival is also a perfect opportunity to explore Limina and its surrounding area, part of the Union of Municipalities of the Ionian Peloritani Valleys, located just a short distance from the Ionian coast and Taormina. The event is traditionally held on the last weekend of September, the ideal time to savor seasonal products in an authentic and family-friendly atmosphere.

The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: the program will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
