The autumn festival of new wine and mostarda in the heart of the Peloritani mountains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Wine and Mostarda Festival is the autumn event that annually transforms Limina—a small village in the Metropolitan City of Messina perched at 550 meters on the Ionian side of the Peloritani mountains—into a showcase of local culinary tradition. Overlooking the Agrò Valley and dominated by Mount Kalfa, the village welcomes residents and visitors to Piazza Marconi and along Via Garibaldi, where the food stalls come to life.
The heart of the event lies in two symbols of the rural autumn: new wine and mostarda, a sweet treat made from grape must. Its preparation is rooted in centuries-old agricultural culture, when farming families created it to preserve the fruits of the harvest for longer. At the stalls, you can taste the mostarda in two versions: warm, freshly prepared, and dried. The festival features live demonstrations of the mostarda-making process, paying homage to knowledge passed down through generations.
Alongside the wine and mostarda, the stalls offer typical local products and regional culinary specialties, while exhibitors showcase the village's craftsmanship, from ceramics to textiles. The evenings are enlivened by live music and folk groups, creating a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.
The festival is also a perfect opportunity to explore Limina and its surrounding area, part of the Union of Municipalities of the Ionian Peloritani Valleys, located just a short distance from the Ionian coast and Taormina. The event is traditionally held on the last weekend of September, the ideal time to savor seasonal products in an authentic and family-friendly atmosphere.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: the program will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
