Nine days across Acqui Terme, Alessandria, and Casale Monferrato to experience the 2030 Agenda
The Widespread Sustainability Festival was created to bring the themes of sustainable development out of the classroom and into public squares, facilities, and cultural venues. Rather than being concentrated in a single location, the event unfolds across several municipalities in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont, with Acqui Terme as its beating heart and additional stops in Alessandria, Casale Monferrato, and Castelceriolo. This is its hallmark: a network-building initiative connecting schools, universities, institutions, and volunteer organizations.
The entire program revolves around the goals of the 2030 Agenda, broken down into four major thematic areas: environment and sustainability, health and nutrition, civil protection and rescue, and road safety and sustainable mobility. Each day addresses one of these core issues through a practical approach, prioritizing hands-on experience over mere lectures.
The festival is promoted by the Associazione Orizzonti Verdi Ets in collaboration with the University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO), the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, and the City of Acqui Terme through the Department of Culture and the Acqui Ambiente award, with the patronage of the Province of Alessandria. This network of public and private entities makes the festival a true educational project for the region.
Activities are primarily aimed at the school system, from primary to secondary level, but many eventsโranging from concerts to public meetingsโare open to the entire community. It is an opportunity to discover how sustainability can become a daily practice through educational workshops, visits to recycling plants, theatrical performances, and high-quality musical events.
The inaugural 2026 edition of the Widespread Sustainability Festival enlivened the province of Alessandria for nine days, with Acqui Terme taking center stage. A calendar that alternated culture, science, education, and volunteering around the four pillars of the 2030 Agenda.
Among the most popular moments were the inaugural concert at the Basilica of San Pietro, the meetings on cities and communities in Alessandria, and the final awards ceremony at the University of Eastern Piedmont. The heart of the event was the major "School in Action โ Living Green" morning on May 28, which brought thousands of students to the squares of Acqui Terme's historic center.
The highlight day, held outdoors across Piazza Italia, Piazza della Bollente, Piazza Conciliazione, and the Parco del Castello dei Paleologi.
Events take place in Acqui Terme (main venue, at the Basilica of San Pietro and historic town squares), Alessandria, Casale Monferrato, and Castelceriolo, in the province of Alessandria.
Acqui Terme is accessible by train via lines from Alessandria, Genoa, and Asti. By car, it is reached via the A26 motorway (Predosa-Acqui Terme exit). Many school events include dedicated bus services provided by AMAG Mobilitร .
Most events are free to attend; certain activities and guided tours are reserved for schools by reservation.
